I kept having very mixed results on pigs with standard set ups, which made me wonder when I hit a deer kind of weird and didn't blow through those cup cakes. Changing broadheads didn't really solve anything. I mean like 75 pigs over the past couple years and LOTS OF 20" long broken arrows after me or someone else "shot a big one in the perfect spot". One thing we didn't change was arrow mass. We tried every broadhead on earth. Trust me, as a product reviewer, I get plenty of them.

The Ranch Fairy lab in South Texas offers ample opportunity to test terminal arrow performance. Simply, when you have deer feeders at a known distance, you can wait on a perfect shooting opportunity, it doesn't matter what arrow you're shooting. I can zero my EZV sight with 400 grains or 1,000 grains at 20 yards and go.

This spring and summer I pushed over 450 grains and 16% FOC all year, spent a bunch of time around 680 grains and 24% FOC and plunked a 200+ pounder with a 985 grain 30% FOC arrow, just to see what happens. Well, I can run faster than that arrow was going. It must be very hard to stop a bowling ball. Take a look.

If you continue to have unusual and erratic penetration issues. Maybe add some arrow mass and see how your "broadhead" performs. It might help your deer killing! Keep your eyes peeled for more Ranch Fairy stuff. I am going to continue playing with this. Mad scientist"ing" is fun.

I shoot what I consider a heavy arrow for whitetail right at 475 grains, 28-1/2 DL 73# draw weight. There is no such thing as over kill when it comes to shooting any animal with a bow and arrow.
