Great day out the woods today, but could have been amazing. Let me explain.... Got settled into covered blind by 6am with 1 hour until sunlight (Corn set the night before at opening). Around 8am, heard deer passing through behind my bro and I. By 9:30 my bro was freezing (not dressed properly) so I told him we could spot and stalk the remainder of the morning. I have been scouting the preserve for the last 4 weeks so had a goos idea where deer would be moving. We hiked up and around a ridge by a bedding area, within 10 minutes a doe popped out within 30 yds. and I took the shot.....miscalculated range and missed (I BLEW IT). We hiked along the ridge for a mile and spotted 3 more deer, none in shooting range. Eventually we had to pack it in and hike back to the truck. While hiking back we approached a monster mature 10 point (Big fat buck). We stalked the buck and got within 20 yards, but just couldn't get an ethical shot due to brush in the way - He eventually busted us. After that, we headed back and called it a day. BTW - I checked our blind when hiking back and deer got into the bait. ahhh Although I didn't get anything, had a ton of action and had the opportunity to track down a few deer. Most fun I've had this season, things are heating up . Anyone else have a great weekend out in the woods?
