Got this 7 pointer on the ground my last evening in IL last year after losing a bruiser earlier in the week.. Better then tag soup.


Here is the bull my father killed last September, I was right behind him videoing it all. One of the best days I've ever had to share that experience with the man that has taught me all I know!

 

Wow double that's a heck of a year you had. great looking boar, that's def on my bucket list of hunts with a bow.

Last year was a total let down for me. The property I had lined up fell through, and I didn't have enough food out on my other place. When I did get some time off he weather didn't cooperate. I shot a couple pesky squirrels.

The new property I think I'm in the same boat as chris, 2.5 acres of beans mowed over tons of does on camera. Looks like it needs a little thinning out of the populous. I put out an extra acre worth of rye/clover in just before the rains last week in some secluded plot areas.

Picked up a plot watcher cam off amazon today to try and pinpoint the most used entrances and exist to the bottom 2.5 acre bean field. The east side of the field is super thick with a deep creek and a giant almost unclimbable hill. I have left that side of the property completely alone for bedding. It's so thick on the other side of the creek with so many small trails coming into the field It has been a bit of a battle trying to pinpoint preferred entrance and exit spots for with regular motion triggered cameras. If I get a chance I'll post an aerial photo to better explain my dilemma.

My realistic goals would be to plink a couple of does. As far as bucks go I'm gonna set my sights low. This is my first year hunting in the area and I have seen pics of what the neighbor is willing to let walk. No one on the large timber side of my place hunts, so I hope to make my dream of growing a Bc buck a reality. I'm gonna give anything that looks younger than 4 years old a pass early(assuming my on the hoof aging ability is decent) and hope not to eat tag soup late :p

Looks like a pretty good area! Not sure if your strategy at uthis place, but I'd suggest staying away from the wooded areas, let them use that for bedding, and hunt field edges, transition areas
