I thought she was bigger than she was! But, thank you! I used a 243.

Do you really? I've been looking at a 243 for my wife. I was thinking she'd be more comfortable with a smaller caliber and less kick. What brand is yours?

I believe we were looking at Ruger and Savage.

Mine is a Ruger. It's a youth model, so fits to my smaller frame better. Just keep in mind that they aren't as versatile as some of the other calibers. It doesn't go through brush well (even little stuff) the bullet deflects.

I am hunting with my 20 gauge slug gun tomorrow. That doesn't kick bad, either.

Ah good point about the brush deflecting. Never thought of that. I've pushed my 7mm mag through plenty of brush before.

Il have to look up the youth. Might just be perfect. Thanks Kristen!

You're welcome. Hopefully you find the perfect fit for her. That was a big thing for me. The "kick" always got into my head and made me flinch like crazy. But, now I'm confident with a gun that fits me.

That's what I was afraid of for her. She handled a 20 gauge all day shooting skeet. After that day, I knew she'd be fine with a 243/270.

That's good to know! My husband bought me a 35 for my first hunting rifle (first gun I ever shot) - that thing kicked like a mule!! If I were to choose, I think a 270 would be a little more versatile. My husband just got a 270 short mag...it's a nice gun.

    Eta; thanks elk.

Congrats Chris and Kristen! nothing wrong with that. I'll be shooting the next legal deer I see as well at this point. I haven't been out since last Monday. Moved over the weekend so I was straight out.
Gonna head out this afternoon. Fingers crossed.
I bought my daughter a .243 a few years back. Still a bit big for her. Beautiful Savage w/ the accutrigger... stainless and walnut. she's a beauty.

Last day of the season for me is this coming Saturday. I will have the mornings to hunt Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Gonna try and lay one more down, but we will see how it goes. Supposed to be rainy Thursday and Friday, and in the 50's on Saturday.. The weather has been ridiculous here this year.

The weather has been crazy here too Eric. We are forecasting 70s on Saturday.

I guess that means I'll hunt a clover plot

Good luck Eric. Our rifle season ends Saturday then in like a week or two our late season archery opens back up. It's supposed to be around 60 here Saturday.

Hey guys! Sorry I haven't been around lately. Congrats everybody for dropping some deer! I got severely burned out and disgusted after my Illinois trip. I have zero drive or heart to be in the woods right now. Hopefully with this mild weather I can find the desire to get out a few more times!
