My father shot a real nice buck this morning with his bow. Buck has been rutting hard as he only dressed out at 148lbs. He was with a doe too. Had a broken right front foot, I'm thinking he got hit by a car at some point as it seemed to be healed up but he was limping quite badly. I'll upload a picture soon.

    Congrats to your dad Eric!

A couple years ago I killed a mature buck that had a broken foot too and he limped pretty bad. I figured he twisted and broke it during a fight. Could it happen to your dads buck as well

awesome news Eric. Looking forward to seeing the pic(s)).
I shot one a few years back as well that had a very bad limp on his front right leg. I could not see anything noticeably wrong with it upon inspection, but he was walking w/ his front right leg out the whole time.. just walking on 3 legs. I fixed that problem for him quickly ;) One of my largest bow bucks...

    Congrats to your Dad!

As for me, I haven't been out in the woods since mid November. Our rifle season opened Monday. This year they changed it first week buck, second week either or. I have seen some monster bucks get killed in this state. A neighbor down the street shot the 12 point - that we were watching on the other side of our property. I'll go out on Saturday and see if I can get anything. Have been seeing two mature doe behind our house though. If nothing else I'll try and sneak out there after work next week. Our weather has been so odd here! Beginning of December and still no significant snow fall. Heck, it's been in the 40s!

same way here Kristen... no snow yet.. raining today.
They finished most of my home remodel, so we are moving in Friday and I will be working on that around my daughter's hockey schedule this weekend. I hope to get out an odd afternoon next week and definitely next Sat.
Some real bruisers have been falling her in MA this year. I have yet to see anything. By far the slowest season I have had in years... but oh well... that's just the way it goes sometimes.

That is a giant Kristen!!! It's too bad you weren't able to throw your tag on him! Hopefully he spread his genes.

It's been super whacky weather wise here too. Low teens yesterday to mid 40's today. Snow is on the way for the north and NW part of the state though. I had a buck show up on camera yesterday about a half hour after legal light, had him on camera a month ago to the day. He is a 7 point now, will be a great buck next year if he can make it through the next 10 days! Here's a pic. (Sorry for the bad quality, it is a cell phone pic of my digital camera.)

Here is a picture of my fathers buck. You'd think he would smile!!

I like the width of your Dad's buck, congrats again to him.

I'd love to have tagged that buck. By the time we realized it was there, bow season was winding down. We found what looked to be his bed and right in the vicinity was a blind. Though I have permission to hunt this property I didn't want to intrude. Definitely big for this area! He was shot on the other side of the road.

    Thanks Kristen.

    Okay here's the story.
It was 30 degrees this morning with our first good frost.
I picked a spot that I set up specifically for the rut. But during the rut I didn't get a favorable wind to hunt it.
I knew today would be the perfect wind and I was hoping that maybe some late does would be receptive.
Since I killed 3 earlier this year, and then my brother added 2 more last weekend, I decided I would hunt exclusively with my bow until the end of the season.
I got into the stand at 5:30am and waited a long and cold wait time for the sun to rise. At about 7:30, my toes were almost frozen solid so I needed to stand. I hadn't been standing maybe 10 minutes when I looked over my shoulder, here comes a deer!
I hurried, got my bow, turned around got ready.....crap it's a spike. He gets to my 40 yard shooting lane and I decided to try blowing my grunt. He did not like it. His head shot straight up, looking all around. Then as quick as he came in, he took off running (tail down) back the way he came.
I stood until about 8:20, as I sat back down I hear leaves crashing behind me (headed away).
Great...I just blew my opportunity...it's probably a monster too...I look behind me...two little deer. (Whispering to my self) please come back...let me get a shot haha.
I guess the could hear me...they circled and walked to my 30 yard shooting lane. I pull back...grunt...let the arrow fly!
I knew I hit him a touch back. So I let him sit for an hour and half, almost 2. Picked up the trail and bam...he didn't run 100 yards (liver shot).
It ended up being a button buck. Oh well. I'll take the tender meat!

I shot a tender one this morning, too...but with a rifle.

Congrats getting it done, though! Can't believe you got in there so early, lol. Especially in the cold. I wouldn't survive!

    Thanks Again!

I try to get into my stand 30 minutes or more before I can see any light on the horizon. It was harder this morning haha

So, my "opening day" of rifle was a success though started out rough. Got lost going to my stand, sat on a stump, thought I saw stand - nope just a funny branch. Go back to stump, look around and see real stand, move to stand. Go to text my husband and phone is missing...so sit for a few hours see deer and then shoot a tender little thing (she deceived my eyes). Wait an hour go look for deer sign - see it, go find phone call husband to tell him. It finally calmed down after that. Saw six deer. Four doe, a button head and a buck. I didn't even try shooting buck. I probably could have but he was behind light brush. Going out tomorrow in hopes of revenge. If this place wasn't so far away (60 miles one way) I'd archery hunt my stand.
