Well we waited all year for my wife's first bow hunt out of state and will be her first bow kill. We are heading to Melvin,TX to "Heart of Texas Bowhunting," cool little set up its a do it yourself place they give you a map and about 300-400ac. to hunt its a working cattle ranch that has just bowhunting section. Been looking over there facebook page and they have killed some nice ones so far so looking forward and excited for her to get one on the ground. I will be filming her so should have something posted next week. I typically get more excited when someone else kills a deer when I'm with them than when I do so the video should be interesting haha. Hope everyone has a blessed weekend and knock some more big ones down!!:)

Well guys she didn't get her buck and shot a doe but we couldn't find her. Needless to say shes is down in the dumps, she put a good quartering away shot on the doe its just the deer didn't bleed. We seen tons of deer and had 2 shooters come in but would never give her a shot. She almost shot a 3 1/2 that didn't make the min. req. 120inch but the guy said we could shoot him just pay a little extra. Well by the time he tells me this the deer is gone lol. Had a shooter come in yesterday evening well over 120 he had at least 18-20inches of air and tall tines. As she was picking up her bow there was a small buck we didn't see off to our right and he spooked all the deer off including the big buck. In the 3 days of hunting we watched 40-50 deer and at least 20 of them had racks. We had a 6 pt come in that was only a 2 1/2 with a 16-17inch spread. I was impressed with the amount of bucks. She didn't get to bring any home but we had fun and she learned a lot she said by having so many deer to watch. We will go again next year and know better how to set up and how the deer move and act. These deer see over 300+ hunters a year so they are very pressured and know a lot of the tricks but all you need is for a few to come around and get comfortable then its looks like your in a city they start coming out the wood works haha. But you make the smallest amount of noise or movement and they gone. It was a challenge for sure and setting up in texas was way different then at home. First (EVERYTHING BITES OR PICKS YOU IN TEXAS) I have cuts and bumps everywhere from there picker bushes, cactus, and thorn trees:rant: that part sucked. It was a cool experience and Mr. kevin is a cool guy that is easy to get along with and straight forward about his deer. He puts in a lot of work learning and watching these deer so he can help you set up your spot best as possible. SO if you like watching tons of deer and going somewhere that you never know whats going to wake out next this place is that. looking forward to getting to hunt it next year with my wife.

Bummer she didn't get a "trophy" but the memory will last a life time, too.

Sounds like a fun outfitter - I'll have to keep it in mind!

Thanks guys yes like I told her we don't always get the one we want but its the memories and experience that will last. We never hunted texas and honestly didn't know what to expect but we will be ready next year. When you can see that many deer and BUCKS at that its a awesome time. I asked her how full draw felt? She said its the most nerve rack exciting feeling she ever had. So yea shes hooked now for sure haha
