My father, brother and I are heading to Pike county for a 5 1/2 day hunt starting the 11th. I went out two years ago and it was rediculously hot, in the 70s a few days, sparse movement. This year the temps show to be in the 50s-low 60's, better but not what id prefer. For you Illinois hunters, whats the rut looking like out there? how do you think that week will be for hunting? My excitement is through the roof!
I was in brown co. 10/21-24. We saw more deer that weekend than we have iin the last 5-6yrs. My brother and I each shot small bucks. We saw a couple bigger bucks too but out of range. Saw plenty of does too. One nice 8 chased a doe out of a bean field I was hunting. You should be there during the prime time. Good luck and keep us posted! Let see the pics when you get back.
It's definitely heating up. As far as the date goes, you can pretty much bank on it every year. The weather is actually going to be below normal Wednesday and Thursday so that's a good thing. We're expecting 2-3 inches of rain across most of western/northwestern IL, but it should be dry by the time you arrive. I'd bring some wet weather gear just incase though. Good luck
Where are you hunting in Pike? One of my stops for work is at a meat processor up that way. They had some pretty good bucks in their freezer this past Friday, so it looks like things are rolling up there. Good Luck!
I live right across the river in Lee county Iowa, a guy i work with lives in hancock county il, he has spent the weekend in his stand and said he has seen a lot of bucks chasing does. Same thing for me here in iowa, went last tuesday on a chilly rainy miserable day. Called in 2 4-6 point bucks early, and they both looked to be starting, they came in aggressive, and were pretty puffed out. Would have took the 6 point considering its my first yr bow hunting, but couldnt get him close enough for a clean shot.
It's definitely starting to pick up here in central il...you should he hitting the prime time. Soon as this weather breaks it should get really going. So I'd say from what I've been seeing you better be standing in your stand w bow in hand...cuz you never know what's gonna happen and it will prolly be fast!!!
