Well guys, the wife will NOT budge. She was raised in a very passive household and her mindframe is not like mine. I am not a willing victim. I was raised by my father who told me, "the cops are only there to clean up the mess, we have to be prepared if/when someone tries to hurt us". I talked to her at length last night and she finally just flew off the handle and said, "I just know you are going to get a handgun, just get it and don't tell me about it or let me know it is in the house". Not the response I was hoping for last night. I offered to take classes with her, told her about the scenarios where as a kid I was robbed at knife point, our house was entered into in the middle of the night and things were stolen why I was asleep, how I have had guns pulled on me in the past, etc....NO GO. I told her I am not the bad guy, never have been, yet again, she will not budge. I told her I think too much of her, our kids, and my self preservation to NOT be armed. Well here is what I gathered from you all when I go to the gun show today in Dulles, VA: 357 sig Kel-tec 3AT's Bersa 380CC LCP 380
Good luck on your decision! Could you make a mental note on the prices of the 3AT & the Bersa for me? Those are the two I'm interested in and I know they're usually cheaper at a show. Look for "Trader Jerrys"...they usually have good prices.
Finch, will do buddy. I will look for Trader Jerry's. I am looking to purchase a handgun, holster, and a pistol box for my bedroom.
Cool....again, good luck with your decision. I bought my Glock from them (their store not a show) and it was the cheapest I had seen. I'd like to think they'd be cheaper at a show.
Sorry to hear you couldn't change the wife's mind, but you have to do something to protect the family. Do what she said and keep it descrete maybe one day she'll warm up to the idea. Have fun at the show today!
Good luck with the wife, and have fun at the gun show. If the prices seem high, pass on the purchase. Your local shops probably have the same or better prices alot of the time.
Finch and others I hear you on the decision part. I hate not having my wife on board but this is something I feel very strong about after reflecting. I am NOT the bad guy. I am husband, father, and friend that is about protecting his loved ones. It is that simple. My dad had handguns in our home for many years when I was a teenager. I never saw them and never knew they were there. He didn't tell me until years after I went to college.
Good for you! I read this thread AFTER my comment on your other thread... but it appears you agree with me :D Remember that once you buy your handgun you actually may have to go through two or three holsters to find one that is comfortable and allows you to carry with no forethought... Remember, that's probably the most important piece of all in the CCW world. Having a gun and permit to rightfully carry it does you no good if you continually leave it at home/in the truck if it's too much a hassle to carry.
Thanks Greg. If I buy it, I will carry it. I am going to find a holster that fits snug and is comfortable. This is not an easy decision in terms of my wife, yet in my mind it is the only decision.
I mentioned to Kendall that I had a hankerin' to go to a gun show. He started flexing for me. I kid you not. :D
Oh... and somebody else, Greg maybe (I'm too lazy to go back and read it) mentioned for you to be the man about it. As sexist as it sounds. I agree.. if she's going to be passive that's fine, it's your responsiblity to protect your family then. Is her issue that she is irrationally scared of having a gun in the house. (like the gun is going sneak around in the middle of the night and shoot someone) Does she not trust you with a gun?? Does she think you are going to turn into Charles Bronson? Anyhow, have fun at the show!
Remington 870 Express 3.5" with 00 Buckshot will take care of any and all problems..I don't own a handgun, but I got my shotguns...
