I had a decent sized doe come into my shooting range the other day but she was coming straight on. I didn't take the shot until she finally turned broadside as she started making her way up the ridge. My question is how likely is a head on shot to be fatal? That way if I am ever faced with the shot again I know whether or not it is one I could take if necessary
Don't take it. Too much can go wrong. You can miss the vitals. You could end up with no exit wound and no blood trail Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk
There's a current thread at the moment about a doe lost to a frontal shot. It's a mistake waiting to happen. It can be very deadly but can also be very costly. My estimate is a 50/50 chance under 15 yards and russian roulette beyond that. Never ever disrespect yourself for passing on a frontal shot.
I shot a nice 8pt a few years ago right in the chest and never found him. Arrow just went right in the chest cavity but was not fatal I assumed. Would never take it again after losing him!
I won't take the shot. Nope. I seriously feel sick when I make a bad shot on a deer and cannot find them. I am doing everything in my power to make the best shot possible. Heck, I passed a broadside shot on a doe last week because she came in a little too fast and only stopped for a bit. I felt I was rushing the shot.
Thanks for all of the quick replies. I feel better about being patient with that doe until she turned to offer a good shot
