Well, I had a chance encounter with this guy late season last year, would come closer than 30 yards...... then found one of his shed rabbit hunting in Feb. He was 2.5 last year and turned into a beast this year....... I took this pic of him last night!
They've been coming from that opening in the woods off to the right, as of now, I'll be settin up in that tree thats in the open to the far right on opening evening!
Joe, Pretty sure I know where you are sitting and what field that is (but won't post for obvious reasons). That is a heck of a buck for that area and it's great he survived. Two years ago I scouted from the same spot you are sitting behind that little hill and had does and fawns walk within 15 yards of me. They seem to use that field in daylight during summer but it seems to wade quickly once the pressure starts. Have you thought going farther south into the timber and setting up along the trails leading to the this field to get a little closer to his bed? Plus then you avoid some dude walking through that field and ruining your hunt. You know that area better than me but just wondering. Good luck my friend and let me know if you need some help blood trailing.......
Brad, I was out last night, don't get me wrong he is a nice one, but out of the 6 big ones a saw, he was the smallest! I had a chance at him last year and have one of his sheds, I'd love to get a shot at him this year. He is coming off private property bordering state land right now, I'll hunt him opening evening and maybe for 2 or 3 days during the week on this field, then I'm done with the field edges! By the way, this isn't the Big Field by Zilmer..... I haven't even started looking there yet, way too many skeeters, its killin me!
Okay my bad. Thought it was "Zilmer". It does kind of look like you are sitting in the small hills on the east side of the of the field looking SW at the field edge. Good luck Joe.
No worries brother, it kinda does look like the Big Field as we call it! Brad, I don't know if you have been up there at all, but the field across from the youth camp is planted in hard woods..its all Pines and Oaks! Kinda of a bummer!
Joe, that's a great looking buck. Hopefully you can get some more pics of him up close this fall, real up close.
I hear ya Bry, what I really want more then anything is to have my boy in the pic with this guy! There would be nothing better!
I hear ya on that. I'm hoping to get my little guy out for a hunt or two this year if I can. Good luck buddy.
