I totally agree with your suggestions. A tirade? Lol. Pointing out the issue is not a tirade. We have a family issue, the root of this issue is parenting and community. Stating what a whacko did in china is pointless. Our issues involved mentally ill with guns, we need to try and understand why they choose the gun. So maybe just maybe we reach at least one of these kids before it's to late. There is a huge difference between Chicago's gang issues and 10 year olds getting killed at school.
Agreed. I'd like them to be plane clothes as well so know one could figure out where they are or how many they are. Kind of secret service like so we don't have to feel like we're living in a military state. Rotate guards each day so one guy doesn't get bored and Laxsidaysickle. Sic.
I don't hate the idea LEOs or security guards, I guess it could help. It just seems like putting a band-aid on a bigger problem. laxsidaysickle
I agreed up until this, you say family is an issue, well,I feel family is also a big issue for these kids as well. The lack of a strong family background starts them down a path of evil, they werent born evil but their environment manifested the evil within. AND,not all killed are gang members. Many are innocent bystanders living in a place that isn't safe for them to grow up. IMO,that is as important to fix as making our schools safe.
I need to add,in those cities, kids don't go to school in many cases because they don't feel safe and they are attacked for going.IMO,those kids and schools are just as important of protecting as any other school.
Agreed Todd, I was more talking about gang bangers deaths, they have a choice, they joined the gang. The innocent bystanders are just as important as schools.
Yes,they joined and seemingly had a choice, but they joined in most cases for a family, something that was missing. Those schools in those areas are in much worse shape from a safety standpoint than any others across this country.
YUP... I watched about 5 minutes of it and got sick to my stomach. Not only him, but all these sports announcers and news people have been just about saying we don't need guns, shouldn't be allowed to have them since Friday. This idiot on Sports Reporters this morning said the second ammendment had to do with muskets.... not assult weapons that everyone owns today. AND... if you dare say some one should be put to death for murderous acts... well you're just not understanding that our society made him that way when his people were brought here as slaves or some such stupid remarks. I expected the idiot to announce at any minute he was going to make it his goal to disarm America. Maybe he's holding that back for Mondays speech or his swearing in. Just like the shopping center shooting spree... they had guards(without guns). Why have them... anyone can call the police after the first round is fired. Of course it's too late... but they can call. I owned 2 stores in Columbia, Maryland in Rouse Company properties. THey had guards. Some of, well most of, the guards were active duty police or state patrol doing a second job. The civilian guards were not allowed to carry weapons. The State Police boys said we can carry and did. Welll trying to be Politically Correct, Rouse's management arm decided no one could carry a weapon. Seems like someone pulled a gun during a disruption at a shopping center. No one was shot, no shots were fired....but the mother of the jerk with the knife said it traumatized her baby. When Columbia management said No Guns.... all the police and state patrol guards said, "I'm not working around these thugs with only a radio in my hand".....or words to that effect. Rouse said their job during a crisis was to call the police who would respond. Now how stupid is that... yet that's the mind set of our pinko liberals out there. Get ready tohide some guns. I got to get some more ammo for the revolution.
It comes from the face that as a society we've stopped putting responsibility on the individual and want to blame everything else, those are the things that need to be fixed. People blame McDonalds for making them fat, tobacco company's because they smoked all their life and got cancer, and now guns have been the whipping post lately. It's easier to blame something else than what the real problem is. No idk what it is, but a knee jerk reaction isn't gonna stop things like this from happening, will it decline idk maybe but it didn't the first time they banned "assault weapon" in 94-04. You can look up several different studies that prove gun crime slow during that time, that's why the ban got lifted. Either way those weapons aren't gonna magically disappear, someone gave the example that Chicago is high gun crime despite it being one of the toughest gun control cities. Well that's because surprised criminal or someone trays to the point of committing a crime or shoot someone doesn't care about laws. Someone gave the comparison to other countries, now idk about AUS or Canada but my time in the USMC as a embassy guard I traveled to 9 or 10 different countries and yes it's absolutely true many places don't have near the gun crimes as the U.S. one reason being you go to a airport or pretty much anywhere around major cities and there are Leos or military walking around carrying these scary assault weapons we are all scared of. Now I'm not saying that the solution but another thing we got taught while cruising around these countries is not to make yourself a soft target and if you look recently that's what's been getting "hit" places where weapons aren't allowed (school, mall, theater) so yea that's where these idiots are gonna go. Your not gonna do anything about that unless your willing to have a presence of force at all places. Also I don't see, with this being a hunting forum, how I've read so many post agreeing with taking any type of firearm. Most of the things said have been "well a AR isn't used for anything besides killing and you can't hunt with it, so why need it?" (paraphrasing) Yea this may be true but if they start to take one type of firearm where does it stop? And that's ultimately what a lot, not all, of the anti gun crowd wants is to totally disarm everyone. So what do you classify an astute weapon? Something semi automatic, there goes most pistols and some shotguns. Have a magazine capacity limit? Again pistols, also some rifles and shotguns including some hunting only weapons. A gun is a gun you can do the same damage with any type, reloading isn't difficult when you hard no one stopping you or returning fire. Basically just saying think about what your doin before you want to get rid of one firearm but keep the rest because the media makes one more scary than the other. What would they say if this idiot used a 10/22 is that what the outcry would be to get rid of? Doubtful. Sorry if got to long, been reading these all weekend and haven't vented ha, bring on the criticism
No guns isn't going to mean no violence - anyone who thinks that has thier head up thier butt....just look over to the Congo and Rawanda and tell me those kids over there aren't traumatized when the murderers show up with machete's because they don't have access to guns. Also the people that get thier heads cut off are just as dead. One other point is that this is no more tragic than one child being killed - the tragedy is the same...just multiple times, and children being killed with pillows and by drowning happens everyday(do we outlaw bathtubs or pillows? and how often do those stories get front and center, national attention?).
I think it was in other thread "another day another shooting" or whatever. I know they are I use mine for coyote.
less than 1/2 sec difference in follow up shot from a pump gun and a semi-auto, and less than a sec from a lever action...also 'AR' does not refer to assault rifle - that was a media/anti-gun connotaition/derivation...like the assault style which basically refers to folding stock or pistol grip and probly includes thumbhole and any mean black synthetic stock in thier book....and they won't stop there anyway.
It might not as been "so many" but there's a couple sprinkled through. Or at least suggestions that they wouldn't disagree. Like said been reading a lot on this so hard to remember where it all came from ha.
People with the will to kill will always find a way. Weapons bans won't do anything to combat the issue, I'd actually say it would likely have the opposite affect. I think the media share some of the blame here. With every new deranged individual that decides to commit mass murder, the media turns that person into a movie star. Likely you all know who James Holmes is, but can you name one of the victims? We'll never be able to stop these types of scenarios from happening, it's part of living free. We can, however, stop recognizing those who cause them.
read this and see we you really think we are headed. Unfortunately for me I live right near the big purple spot. Were These gun laws are supposed to be in place to make it safer. hahahahahaha . http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ws-gun-violence-epidemic-sweeping-nation.html
Agreed, this was kind of my point earlier. We can do things that make us "feel" safer but really how safe will we be. The main suggestion that everyone seems to be leaning towards is armed LEOs in school. Like I said I don't hate that idea but realistically unless there is an armed presence of good guys everywhere all the time how safe can the average person really be?
The difference is school's are supposed to be guaranteed, or as close as possible to guaranteed, safe areas. Schools are where parents are entrusting others to protect and provide a safe learning environment for their children. The difference between life outside of schools and inside schools is that parents are not relinquishing control of their children (to an extent...I'm referring to lower grade level age in this case) to others. They are usually in contact and in control, and can protect them to their fullest capabilities. I do agree with your statement when talking about outside of school, however. Inside of schools is a different story. EVERYTHING that can be done NEEDS to be done, and in many schools (including mine), it's not.
