Didn't the shooters see the signs banning guns from the premises??? Maybe we should ban responsible people from assault rifles and put up more signs for the criminals to follow. Maybe it is time to have more retired law enforcement personal guarding the schools.
Exactly, where the hell did I say anything about blaming a gun. You guys need to learn how to listen.
Your general comments over the past few days have lead pretty much everyone hear to believe you wouldn't disagree with an assault rifle ban. So if I was misled, let me just air it out directly....do you or do you not agree with an assault weapons ban as an attempt to make society safer from attacks like this?
That's what you get from this thread. I felt like every parent in the world probably felt that day and still does. My heart hurts for those families, that community, and this country. I was out of town and in the woods all day on Friday. My father and I didn't see the news until 11 oclock that night at the hotel. I immediately called my kids and told them how much I missed them and loved them. I hunted Saturday and my heart was absolutely not in it. The hunting was slow and we left early, normally I'd have convinced pops that we should stick around and hunt hard. I didn't say squat. I wanted to be home and put my arms around them and it felt really good to do that and only made me feel more sorrow for those families. What we can "do better" is simple. Love our kids, our families, our friends like there is no tomorrow. Be kind to each other, help someone you know, help a stranger. Be grateful, thankful, and appreciative of all the blessing in your lives. Don't take this life for granted because nothing is guaranteed. Nothing...not another second, another minute, another day. We like to think we are in control and we go through our day to day lives making plans for next week, next summer, next year with this sense of bravado that we are invincible. Truth be told we are not. I resent Cooter that you would even imply that I(or anyone else) doesn't care or feel anything about those children, that was low class. I am only saying I pat my kids on the head and tell them everythings going to be alright but in my heart I know that the things I can control will be alright but I'm only hoping the things I can't control will be too.
What are you gonna do to protect kids at schools Gary? How bout bus stops, soccer practice, the pool, the beach, a park? What do you know about logic?
I completely disagree, and it's not my general comments, just the paranoia of some here, if you're not a lemming and question status quo, omg you want to take our guns. Vito I need the chicken.
They both have Leo's, my son leaves for school with a parent waiting and is picked up with one. My wife or I stay at every practice for our kids. Like most here I have a CCW which I do use. Like I said we can do better, or just keep sticking our collective heads in the sand.
From that I guess what you are saying is an LEO or security in schools? The other stuff you listed would be "better" because you(a parent) are present, the real area of concern is when we are not present or if the parent present is unarmed(the vast majority I'm sure).
It is called sarcasm which is directed toward the mindset of people who thinking tighter restrictions work. Kind of like how well the war on drugs has panned out, I mean who can find drugs ever since they have been classified as illegal substances
Nice job twisting what I said. If someone says we cannot change anything...would that not be the same as believing it is not worth even trying to do something? I didn't say that anyone here doesn't care about kids. Either you believe there are possible solutions to improve things or you don't...simple as that Is it possible a little more security at elementry schools is going to stop all bad things from happening? Of course not. But it may stop some.
I think pretty much anyone who knows me knows I'm as level headed as they come. Paranoia, lemmings, chicken littles, etc dont apply. I think a chicken little picture should be used for ANYONE advocating restricting our rights as citizens laid out in the constitution. And as for you not suggesting that addressing the weapons used is appropriate...you certainly seem to imply it... Why the tirade over weapons if it's truly a mental health issue? I'm all for logical discussions over ANY issue that could improve our well being as a country. I think banning certain types of weapons will do NOTHING to prevent these attacks. Setting protocols on how to deal with them more efficiently may however. I'm always the most uneasy in places I cannot carry. How about a gun ownership education class in order to purchase firearms similar to the concealed carry class offered by many states? How about we never mention the identity or circumstances of the shooter? Allow them to fade into anonymity... How about we quit setting ourselves up with areas that don't allow citizens to arm themselves such as campuses and certain stores/malls. Maybe we will see more stories of thwarted attacks rather than the ones that have hit the mainstream media as massacres. I too would love to see our legislature approach change from many different angles. I just think guns will be the easiest target in light of recent events, and the general population will suffer from it because the actions of a few.
Where is all this outrage when year after year we have 100's of kids and young adults being killed in chicago and other big cities. From march of 2011 to march of 2012 there was over 100 under the age of 20 killed with guns. Over 400 overall last year. This is a city with the toughest guns laws in the country already in place. Clearly, looking at the guns as the source of the problem is coming at the problem backwards. Sure, there are some reforms that can be made and I feel there are some that need to be made. Safety and education is at the top of my list. But that will do NOTHING to change what is at the root of the problem. First imo is family. We need families that stay together and pray together. Maybe then we can start to see problems and help before they manifest into pure evil. The high rate of divorce in this country devastates the children involved. I'm not naive enough to think that will solve the whole problem but would be a good start. Security is something that has to be addressed with the highest level of importance. I know we are all upset over this and we should be but we need to step back and look at the facts rationally. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
Yes, I want a LEO, not a security guard. The damn DB for background checks should be up to date. The way we handle kids these days, it easier to give them a pill then parent. My daughter turns 12, she spends more time away from us. She had her first dance Friday night, am I going to lock her up and live in fear? No, but I will teach her to be smart. I know there is know way to stop all the evil, it happens, it's going to keep happening. But really we cannot do better? We cannot do some basic common sense things to make our schools a bit safer?
My point is simple(I thought). Even methods that would probably make schools seem safer would do little against a determined psychopath. I appreciate the efforts my daughtes school makes but I'm not a dumb a$$, their security guard couldn't protect a warm cup of piss. But let's go full bore and make schools safer by putting armed LEOS there, bullet proof glass, surveillance, the little push button alarms banks have. Fine. You feel safe now? Society is all better now? Now the killers just uses explosives, or go to the bus stops, or a day care, or a hospital, or a park, or a retirement home, or anywhere else. Fact of the matter is if some nut wants to kill 30 people tomorrow how hard would it be? How many different scenarios could accomplish that? How do we defend against that?
Why not a security guard? Just asking. Our middle schools and high school have uniformed officers. Now I suppose(hope) they are added to the elementary schools as well. Sent from my DROIDX using Tapatalk 2
If they are going to go after its citizens gun with "we have to do something" then I think they should limit the amount of this crap Hollywood can put out each year and these video games and even go after the news media with their 24/7 shock and awe. Spread the blame around, it take a twisted mind to WANT to kill before a gun, knife, bomb or poison comes into play. I just hate the thought of kindergarten children getting pat downs before school each day. Let try changing the way people view the world based more on reality.
I agree we can do better as parents. My sons in middle school he had his first dance last week. There was a cop there. At the end people could walk in and get there kids. Gary I say this not to sound like the biggest pessimist in the world but as a realist I know that if some nutjob wanted to he could have walked in there and made a mess of the place starting with the LEO and then the 200 defenseless students and faculty. I hate feeling vulnerable and more than that I hate thinking my kids could be vulnerable but what can we really do? Kevlar vests at The Gap?
