Around here in NE Ohio there is alot of hay. When I say alot, almost half the fields around here and all the fields on our property are hay thats mostly Alphalfa. Is this stuff better for deer then corn and beans? What does everyone think about hay compared to food plots.
Deer love alfalfa. Especially if it is short and growing. It should be better then corn for the deer but I doubt it is any better then soybeans. All 3 are great for drawing in deer but corn and soybeans will draw deer in better from what I have seen around here. Tim
I see a lot of deer skirt the outside of hay fields just prior to dark and then sneak back out to the field when it is dark. Soybeans are great until they dry....then they seem to heat up again later in the late season. Corn seems to be more of a constant for drawing deer, but I honestly only hunt field edges the inial couple weeks of the WI season and maybe first week of the IL season. The remainder of the season I am back in the timber and swamp a weee bit closer to bedding areas...not directly over the food sources.
