We are planting hay this year, we have a 5 year lease. I have never hunted a hay field, we have a few low spots. The south part of the farm will be hay. Right by the second lane going back.(South lane) I think I am going to hang in the woods in the low spot and try and catch a deer sneaking out. What do you guys think?
Define "hay" Germ. Are we talking alphalpa? If that's the case, deer flock to it. How is the other crops in the area looking, meaning, a more appeasing food source for them?
Well here Inner Triangle is CRP switch Grass. Outer will be in hay. Also the spot North I have outlined will be hay.
The deer will love you for planting alfalfa. I have never seen an alfalfa field the deer didn't flock to. But it can be kinda tricky to grow. Gets diseases and the bugs like it too, high maintenance.
Hey I just want to make sure that Alphalpha is the same thing as Alfalfa :d Anyway, both the SW and SE (Interior corner) of the woods that are north of the alfalfa should be excellent. If I had to choose any crop to plant for deer, it would be alfalfa... no question.
We have about 8 acres in alfalfa. The deer use it, but it isn't like Muslims to Mecca if you know what I mean. I would hunt it like you would any other food source. I think you know what you are doing... I think:d
