Took my camera out hunting with my sponsor and his redtail. Had quite a few slips that day and she had some great flights after some rabbits. Pulled hair on a few but never connected. Of course I missed the real good action shots - I was always in the middle of the brush at the time she chased em.

Beautiful bird. Beautiful pictures as always. Good stuff. Thanks for posting.

Not near the quality of your photos... my camera is only 3 megapixels. LOL After reading your post I was looking out the window and this guy swooped in to try and catch a squirrel or something feeding on my bird seed. LOL Talk about camo. He's only about 10 feet off the ground.

That's what I call it.... barred owl. They're also referred to as Wood Owls, striped owls, swamp owls, and hoot owls. This guy hung out in my back yard for hours today. Once I thought he had left and then saw him fly in again. He changed trees in a 20 yard area several times during the day. Never got more than 30 yards from my house. He was still there until it got to dark to see.

Thanks a lot guys. Sorry I haven't been on here in over a week, been spending a lot of time in and out of the hospital with my dad.

Isaiah - my sponsors bird is a bit larger than mine - he flies her at a little over 1000 grams. I found my birds good hunting weight is right around 940 grams. They are just like a fighter - get them too heavy and they are lazy and get them too light and they are weak. When hunting, you like to get them at their optimum hunting weight. It takes a while to figure this weight out with each individual bird. A difference of as little as 20 grams can make a big difference in how she responds to you in the field.

David - the bells on here ankles are for hearing her. It is a real pain trying to keep track of her without the bells on. Sometimes she crashes in such thick brush , the only way you can locate her is by listening for her bells. It's also nice that you can hear her when she takes off out of a tree - she is either chasing game or changing perches.

I hope to get out again this weekend if all goes well. Hope to get some good vids then.
    Take care
    Dave

yeah i would imagine that would be a difficult thing to keep up as far as weight, but seems like you have it down pretty well.

dave, let me close in saying this.... what you are doing and what you have shared (much like all of you in your diff interests here on bh.com) is not only enjoyed by myself on my login account, but by all of my friends who arent even hunters and could care less. they think what you are doing/have done with roxy is amazing! not to mention what i learn from all of yall!

I guess I could never be a falconer then. I'd never hear the bells. Maybe if you slapped me up beside the head with them I could.... but that's about it. LOL
