I'm a avid reader of QDMA and was just curious what everybody's plans for their food plots are for this year? I'm planning on an acre plot of Brassica's blend from Welter Seed and 1.5 acre plot of corn/milo mixture. We had great success last year with our Eagle Bean and Milo mixture but Eagle Beans are very expensive and I would like to focus more on late season food sources. What's your plan for the year?

For my main hunting property, I am planning on more of the same, but planting a bigger oats section and a smaller turnip section. My oats will be planted at the same time. (mid to late Aug) My Anter King Red Zone and my turnips will be planted at least 3 weeks to a month later than this year. (early Aug, weather permitting)

At my cabin property, I am planning on clearing another 2 acres or so, given the time and the man power and going back to some clover and increasing the oats.

We planted oats 2 years ago and didn't have any luck with them. The deer didn't seem to touch them. We plan to plant, weather permitting, our brassica's blend in mid-July. We're putting about 100 lbs of nitrogen down beforehand to give them an added boost. Is there a reason you're cutting down on the turnips?

We need to set dates for that... March what? BTW, pending on the date, I might have some extra man power. We'll discuss it soon.

My main plot will most likely stay the same. Main planting of Clover and Rye in the spring. I want to then plant the perimeter with winter wheat and brassicas in mid August. I didn't get to plant the perimeter this past year, but the year before, I used that combination, and had action all season.

I'm also toying with the idea of putting in another plot (~.75 acre) nearby, and planting winter wheat, brassica, and turnips. The local farmer who leases our ground planted oats this year, and they weren't touched. Granted, we had a bumper acorn crop, but they were still hitting the clover.

Mid-July. He planted them as a cover crop for his grass hay.

I've had a hard time competing with my neighbor I only have 13 acres and he has hundreds with alfalfa and clover fields, and every hunting season he gets a semi load of sugar beats. I planted imperial clover on a trail that goes around my property, but this year I am going the tree route. I'm getting 25 red oaks 5 hazelnuts and 5 cedar. It will be a few years before these produce, but I am hoping it will give the deer a reason to come over to my land.

Just didn't see the benefit in having an acre of them. The deer didn't hit them until late. The oats were the draw and I want more of them. What I feel the key to the oats is planting them late and having them nice and green when the beans in the area are browning.

We'll be putting in 2 times more bedding cover then food plots.

Corn and beans for us, food wise.

It's mostly woods I have a couple small swamps and I made a trail that goes from behind my house all the way around my land and planted it with imperial clover. On my propery line my neibor has a field. I usually get deer coming off and going onto this field when I hunt. This field isn't planted though. Most of my woods are popple and birch and just a few pines.

It probably didn't help the beans browned very late this year (at least in my area).

Lots of projects this year, the things that worked well, I'll do again...purple top and 7 top turnips, rapeseed, kale. I have about 9 pounds of roundup ready cornseed from a farmer friend in Virginia that I met on the other site. Other than that just sunflowers again around the pond and bordering the corn, and frostseeding some more red and white clover into this past years turnips area, to put some nitrogen back in for corn a year or two later. I know the pt turnips sucked it out this year. Can't wait till spring. Time to plant, and eat turkey :D

Im going the fooplot route for the first time this year. Im going to have around an acre, maybe a little more, to plant something. I havnt decided on what yet.

    The layout of my land:

The red circle has been recently cleared and is the only open land on my property that doesn't have alfalfa (except around the pond). The alfalfa didnt come in very good last year, but it was on its first cycle.

I do know that i want to plant corn around the outside of my foodplot.

I hit function and insert (which is print screen) then copy and paste in ms paint, cut out what doesn't need to be there and upload.

I'm doing clover and brassicas again this year, but I've read a lot about corn and am thinking about doing it. The deer that I hunt at our property in WI have never seen corn before (no fields for 15 miles in any direction)
