We try to eat only venison when it comes to red meat. If we run out, we will get beef. But how can you beat organic, lean red meat? An elk will feed us for at least a year and it works out to be less than beef per pound, even with all hunting costs factored in.
I personally try to stay away from red meat as much as possible for the length it takes the digestive system to process it and fully break it down. When I do though I prefer venison for the lean and clean factor of knowing where it came from...if not I go to the local meat shop where only farm raised no chemicals or hormone pumped meat enters their establishment and buy beef there...my wife however does get the occasional burger pack from the super market which I hate but I'm a "don't waste kind of guy" so we grill them up and eat them...I just try to not make a habit out of it. I personally prefer chicken/fish or turkey over red meat anymore when I cook protein.
At home, I use ground venison in casserole, chili etc and ground bear for burgers. I am a farmer and cattle dealer so I strongly support the beef market as well, but mostly for steaks. I never buy ground beef, but I will go to local establishments and order a burger
We have almost completely done away with beef, and replaced with venison. I love the taste, and it smells way better to me. lol
Pretty much replaced beef with venison. And keilbasa, italian sausage, breakfast sausage, summer sausage, etc... I'll once in awhile buy a steak for something different, but 98% replaced with venison.
My family will eat venison when we have it. If we could shoot enough deer to eat venison only we would. Growing up in a bowhunting family I've probably eaten more venison then beef over my almost 24 years. Anytime my mom would cook something that called for beef she would use venison instead.
Venison is not organic in most areas. Many times they are eating GMO crops. Whether you believe in the GMO products or not it is not considered organic. Just saying.
^yep. If you go by the rules for 'organic' commercial meat, wild Midwestern venison would hardly ever qualify.
Almost all elk and venison. For some reason when I eat store bought beef or order it out my right elbow or 1 of my 2 ankles locks up like a gout effect. I can pop o e of those gout pills and 2 to 3 days later I am good. Think it must be some type of chemical or something they are using in our meats today. I can eat the elk and venison with absolutely no effects.
