I got to watch the group for a good hour yesterday evening.. Her beard is very thin, but about 5-6 inches long, shes definately a hen, head, body etc all scream hen.. The other gobblers are establishing a pecking order right now ... except for the 1 big long beard, he pretty much has the jakes lined out.. Its evident by how they act around him, as for that hen, I swear she thinks shes a gobbler.. she hung with the jakes and big boy everytime they split off from the big group while feeding in our oats.. LOL again maybe its just a coincidence but its interesting to watch nevertheless. My next thought is... I remember GregH getting a nice bearded hen a few years ago and I thought that was real cool. I am trying to decide if I would take that hen if I had a shot.. I do get 2 turkey tags in the spring. I have always wanted to have a couple full body mounted turkeys in the house.. She would definately be a rarity. The one long beard in the group is a bird I let walk last year as a jake, hes been fun to watch grow up since last year, he has stayed right here on my neighbors place all year with the hens.. We call him "bottle rocket" LoL because over the 4th of July last year when we were firing off bottle rockets he wouldnt stop gobbling at them.. even well after dark from his roost tree, it was hilarious.
