Shot a doe tonight and she went about 60 yards and laid down. For a while she held her head up and the her head went down too. 3 other does in the area came by, smelled her and then proceeded to pace back and forth around her. When a yearling approached they chased it off. This kept up until after dark.

I came home and changed out of the hunting clothes and went back with the spotlight. When I shined the light over to where she had laid, there were the 3 does still there.

    Has anyone else seen this?

I decided to recover tomorrow morning.

No, kinda weird. I've only had Bucks come up to my downed deer and give em a good smelling! Congrats on the Doe, looking forward to the pics!

This happened to me last year after i whacked a nanny with triplets. The fawns and some does stood around until I cam out of the stand and then they ran.

Yes, several times in the late season in Albama. Sometimes this allowed us to whack more of them.

I've had this happen too, but never other adults either. Very strange.

Recalculated this morning as winds are whipping at 20+ MPH, the shot was 41 yards and the doe went 70 yards after being shot. Waiting on sunrise to go recover.

Good luck IV..no I've never seen that..I've seen deer linger for a bit near a downed one but not to that extent.

Now Turkeys are strange that way...they charge to the downed bird and all gather around!

Well, went out this AM and she was laying right where I saw her go down. Field dressed at 140 lbs. Hit her way back (other than it was 12 yards further than I thought and there was a wind blowing) but she didn't go anywhere. When I dressed her, I hadn't hit any intestine. Lucky I would say.
