Yes I have seen that before. There is a spot where I hunt that is close to a swamp, when the swamp floods during hunting season the deer huddle up on a small island in the center of the water(50yd wide x 100yd long). Two years ago I found a downed tree across the water to the island. I walked the across the tree & started scouting the island, it wasn't long I had these small deer running every direction. I found the north end of the island covered with large piles of deer scat. There was only one or two does that were large enough to bother with & they were moving so fast I couldn't get the sight on them. It was kinda like a deer nursery, is it normal for all the young deer to huddle up like that? That was the only time I've seen that.
So basically deer grouping up together to stay warm in winter is what I'm basically getting from everyone of why something like this would happen. Pretty crazy couldn't believe it, but also another great reason why I and we all loving hunting so much. Always seeing and learning new things in the field. BOW HUNT OR DIE!!!
I believe I'd have a stand hung there for late season next year. Scout for good entrance and exit routes now and plan accordingly
I've seen it with elk but not deer. I could see it happening if snowmelt caused standing water and they all floated to the same spot and then the water came down. Pretty cool, I'd put a camera there for sure.
This thread reminds me of the time someone posted pictures of some Turkey scratchings and asked how you would go about hunting this "Scrape Line".
Meaning??? Never asked how to hunt it, just if anyone has seen something like this before because I have never come across something quite like this before.
When you said porkey, I thought you were saying pig. I knew that was wrong. Not having porcupines here, never even thought of that but after looking it up, that is what it looks like. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 using Tapatalk
