Rifle hunting in PA, I shot thru a buck and hit a doe that was behind him, that I didn't see. I didn't kill her, but I did take shots at her as she ran away. If I got in trouble, oh well, I wasn't going to let a wounded deer run off and suffer and she was cleary wounded,. My dad told me that a long time ago, he shot a buck in doe season in PA, on our family land. He called the game warden to report his mistake.. They gave him a ticket and then told him to help drag the deer out of the woods. My dad said, because he did the right thing and still got punished, he told the game warden to go pound dirt (I'm sure he used more colorful words) and to drag the deer out himself. He just went down the mountain and back home. He said the warden came down a few hours later, no deer, but left and never came back that he saw.
Consequences for our actions are not negated merely because we do the right thing after doing the wrong thing. Sometimes it works out that way, but sometimes it doesn't.
Based on the conversation I had with a Minnesota CO, I will be using standard Rage BH with out concern that I am violating.
In MN your fishing license is good into the next year (Feb/March sometime). I've accidentally been ice fishing the week after my license had expired and hadn't gotten the new one. I've remembered the last few years.
Some game laws in illinois that are pretty easy to break. (I'm still denying any and all culpability tho') Shoot a deer and see it drop but you wait around for a bit to see if anything else shows up. That's a violation. Illannoy requires tagging your deer immediately upon the kill. If you know it's dead, you're supposed to be tagging it. Used to be that anyone who shot a coyote or any other 'furbearing' animal from a treestand was a violator. They recently changed it to allow coyotes but last I heard, all other furbearers are still illegal to kill 'while in possession of a tree climbing or tree cutting device'. So even if you're standing on the ground and shoot a possum while you have a tree saw in your pack... You're a poacher. Driving down a country road and catch a glimpse of a buck in the field... So you back up and swing your headlights out across the field to get a better look... Now you're spotlighting. Illegal. Even swinging at bit wide around turns to sweep fields with your headlights is a violation. Stop it, you horrible scoff law. Not a game law but an illannoy gem. Let your non-FOID friend or family member borrow your vehicle that has even one live round of ammo in it, and they're committing a felony.
It's such a great state, least you escaped. I sometimes wonder how the people that are supposed to be enforcing laws keep everything straight.
You were fine, per MN regs expandable broadheads can be "no more than 2 inches in width at or after impact."
Hmmmm, Let's see. I guess if you spend enough time hunting (35 years) you are going to break the law whether that being unintentional or intentional. I wouldn't trust any hunter that says differently. Just like someone that has never broken the law driving.... I am not buying it! I've crossed the fence line to retrieve game. This isn't illegal in my state but some people will argue differently. I will continue to do this. I've forgot to wear blaze orange during one or more of the many rifle seasons. I am not a clock watcher so I know I have hunted after shooting hours. I've shot a hen pheasant on more then one occasion (left them lay). I've accidentally shot a hen turkey during spring season. I've fished with 3 poles forgetting to buy my 3rd pole license. (This irritates me there is such a fee) I've shot ducks that where flapping their wings but where still technically not flying. Meaning their feet were still on the water. I have left my wallet at the house, containing my DL, Lifetime licenses, permits, stamps, etc.... I've forgot to put the plug back in my gun goose hunting. I've blasted a rooster on the ground more then once that would not fly for what ever reason. I've used walkies in the field that would technically be illegal based on the nature of the conversation while in the tree stand. Do any of these things make me a unethical hunter, nope, just honest. I have more ethics then 99% the guys around here.
Where I live coyote season is year round and I think no bag limit. You just have to use a weapon that coincides with whatever big game season is open at that time. Here I'm pretty sure coyote is included in the fishing/small game license for $27/year. You can buy that license and add each individual big game to it or buy the Sportsman for $137/year and it includes everything but migratory waterfowl I think. I don't duck hunt. In the summer when there are no big game seasons on, you can use any weapon on private land. The public WMAs are either bow only or no hunting in the summer period. The only hunting laws I've ever accidentally broken were not having my license on me once. In Spring turkey season I alternate back and forth between spawning bass and turkey. Our license is just a slick piece of paper approx 10" long X 3" wide. Can be in your wallet, boot etc - just have to have it on you if stopped. Same piece of paper for hunting and fishing and I put mine in a ziploc in case of rain or other water from boating. I left it in my bass boat and went bow hunting for turkeys. Never saw a turkey on that hunt and no wardens. We are allowed to photo copy our license as long as the dates are good your fine. So now I copy it and put one in a ziploc to stay on the boat and one in my hunt pack. The other was Spring turkey about three years ago. Here in TN it's Toms only in Spring no hens. A buddy keeps horses and had cut hay in a field and had bales laying around not picked up yet. I shot and missed a tom that was close to a bale. The arrow went thru the bale behind him and he took off. I sat there for a sec and noticed the bale was moving. There was a hen on the other side that got stuck bad but it looked as if it would be a while before she died. However she was still stuck with the hay bale. I cut her throat. I go to church with a warden and called him. He came and picked up the hen and took it to hunters for the hungry.
I have forgot my tags at home, opening day of turkey season, ended up shooting a turkey on public land and didnt have my tags so i just put it into the cab of the truck and tagged it when i got home.I have also tagged other peoples deer becauce they shot to many does in one morning.
I got a ticket for hunting without orange on during muzzleloader season while archery hunting. Had it hanging on the branch next me since it was 70 degrees out. Of course here come a wi warden struttin through my land i own to check me. What a joke. Thats what i get for being close enough to see me from the road.
