I'm sure the other kids and parents will thank him for his toughness when they all start coughing in a few days.
lol!! Exactly what I was thinking. I've noticed you are really on your game Hook. Apparently fully recovered from that last pesky concussion. Well played again.
Thats different, Brett. Sicknesses/bugs travel through a school much quicker for obvious reasons. I like that parents are asked to keep their sick kids at home. Same with the "kids zone" at the local YMCA. I hate seeing obviously sick kids being dropped off. Its a selfish act by the parents, with no regard to the other children or those children's families.
I dont work in close proximity to 20 or 30 children. I have my own office and can stay away from my employees if need be. That being said, if I think there is a good chance of passing my illness to anyone else, I actually do stay home. So do my children.
Well guys, I am not one of those guys who believes in keeping their kids home from school because of a minor cold. If someone elses kid gets a little stuffy for a day or so, then that is the way it is. On the other hand, if my kids are really sick, they stay home. My daughter caught the same cold last week and was a miserable snotty mess so I kept her home. Much different than my son today. Maybe I am overboard, I believe in kids being trained so that they will be tough in the future. In all the jobs I've had, a premium was put on employees showing up to work, sick or injured. I can't tell you how many times wuss bags let us all down because they had a little cold or sprained ankle. Call me oldschool, call me a moron...or call me worse.
You hit the nail on the head regarding the training. I've had a few warehouse jobs in my day and people that call in all the time are definitely not in line for any promotions. Toughing out minor colds in grade school builds character later in life and will pay dividends in the workplace later on.
My boss gets pissed if someone comes into the office sick. Why would someone get made if someone calls in for being sick? Does the boss want the rest of his employees to get sick as well? That seems retarded. Now I understand if you hire unreliable people, it could become a problem with people abusing the system, but if you have reliable employees, no boss should get angry or pass judgement upon someone who calls in due to illness.
I don't think it comes down to being "tough" as much as the situational culture in which one works. Having a job that when you don't show up severely impacts other people is a whole different ball game to one where a day out of the office isn't even noticed. Then you have people that if they don't show up, don't get paid, vs others that get paid regardless. If a person grew up and worked in one culture compared to another, they are likely going to have very different perspectives.
Tough: Exposing those around you to illness with little to no regard. Or, working with illness or injury that could potentially endanger your co-workers. Example: "Vito is running that backhoe while being hopped up on cold medications and a badly sprained ankle. He is one tough son-of-a-gun."
Well said. A kid not going to school sick doesn't help his/her classmates, its potentially hurts them. Its more of a selfish act than anything. I think I get what you're trying to say, Brett, but I don't see how going to school with a running nose makes you tough?
I commend you my friend. If he feels good enough to go and concentrate then so be it. If the little vagrants in his school have weak immune systems then their parents should have them at home in a bubble with their helmet and knee pads on. I can't tell you how many people come in to work sick and it doesn't bother me one bit because work is getting done, absences are very costly in my business.
Dang, I thought my 10 yr old daughter was tough because she stayed on a blood trail, in the freezing cold dark, with a lantern by herself, scared ****less and not complaining while I went to check an area where I thought the deer may have gone. Then she hung with me while it was field dressed and helped me get the deer and tracking stuff home. Now, I find out she is just a weak girl because I let her stay home from school when she is sick. Well, I'm not going to tell her. I'll just let her keep thinking she is as tough as I told her she was that night.
Just curious, but do you drag your wife around by the hair, or is she tough enough that you wouldnt dare?
I would say that makes her awesome tough. And smart too. I assume she wasnt wearing a helmet while tracking...?
That got a good laugh. She is actually getting pretty good at finding tiny drops. I do have to thank Steve (Schultzy) for the info on lanterns. Best thing at night for tracking deer and we use them for other stuff at night around here.
LOL and no knee pads even though we got on our knees a couple times. I have to say the very coolest thing was me spotting the deer but not saying anything and then she "found" it. I'm getting goosebumps all over again. Great night, that was.
