I do think some parents have gone a little coo-coo with the safety precautions but I can't say I blame them. With so many news outlets on TV and the internet, everyone is more informed on what dangers surround kids doing certain activities. I guess after all of the children of "under-protective" parents grew up and saw all of these news stories of children being killed, kidnapped, hurt with broken bones, etc, they just decided to wise up. I also think though that most of the whacky over-protective parents did not grow up in the outdoors doing things like hunting, camping and fishing. There's a bumper sticker that floats around where I live promoting a local sheriff and it says something like, "Children who hunt and fish don't steal and do drugs." I think that's true to a big extent.
Yes, parents have become too overprotective. When my wife and I take my children to the parks, or anywhere for that matter, the parents follow their offspring all over the place "helping" them. It is ridiculous. My wife and I find a bench to sit and watch and if the kids need a hand, we get up and lift them up or whatever. People watch my kids and cringe when Joey goes on the fire pole and stuff, but guess what, they need to make decisions and grow up on their own. Now before you judge me, we warn them and tell them some of the things they are not allowed to do, but ultimately, THEY have to live with the consequences. We actually parent our children, NOT do everything for them, worship them, make them our idols, let them order us around. Stop believing what all these nutjob counsellors and "professionals" say. Sal
Bubble wrap isn't necessary anymore. Our country has succeeded in fattening up kids at a young age to protect against physical injury. Sucks for the bubble wrap companies.
My daughter wiped out last night skiing haven't heard if her wrist is broke or not. Should have put her arms in splints before she went I guess.
you are a terrible parent for not being proactive in your child's life. how do you sleep at night?!?!
One wrong hit on the head and your kid is a vegetable , we now know more about head injuries than we did 20 years ago. If you do not use this information and make your kids safe, well you 're a bonehead. Two girls age 11 and 13 were kidnapped and sold into sex salvery walking down a street a mile from my house. So yes I am over protective .
Can you believe some people wear seatbelts? Total wusses. I mean my Grandpa didn't wear one and he lived to 87. Some people are safety freaks. Its ruining our country.
The were sold in Toledo Ohio the dad actually got his daughter back, went into the house and got her out. Then got beat to a pulp.I forgot how moral a state Ill was, lol
Seriously, this made me laugh out loud. If I was from Illinois I would at least lie and say I was from somewhere else. I make sure to fill the gas tank in Iowa or Indiana if I have to drive across Illinois. I wont give one cent to that corrupt state.
I think the knee and elbow pads are going a little too far. However, I don't want to be standing outside a hospital room someday wishing I had made my girls wear a helmet while biking. A blow to the head can leave you with a bump and a few tears. It can also leave you devastatingly crippled.
I didnt let my kids get immunizations either. I figured a little bout with small-pox or Hepatitis will just make them stronger. I also let them start carrying pocket knives as soon as they could walk. We also skipped the BB-Gun phase. Those things are for wussies. If you havent suffered multiple consussions, you just havent lived life to the fullest. Time to man-up America!
Thats what I'm talking about. I don't know how else these damn kids nowadays would learn there are consequences their actions!
I was so proud of my son this morning. He went to be at 6pm last night sick. He woke up with a slight cough and a sore throat this morning. He has not missed school in a year and a half. He chose to go to school this morning, stood out in the rain for the bus, and toughed it out.
