I enjoy your debates, here's some kindling :D http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/blog/bi...written-baseball-rules-you-mig?urn=mlb,238853
I'd never heard the one about taking a pitch after the back to back HR's. I would have been worried about taking one in the ear.
The best stuff from the whole article, right here: "Still, there are ways to express anger (at umpires) without getting tossed. After umpire Shag Crawford called **** Groat out on a play at second base, Groat told him, "You're still the second best umpire in the league." Then he added that the other 19 umpires were tied for first. :D :D :D That's just good stuff.
That's never stopped you, before. The reason I don't know of "rules" 1 & 7 is likely because I never played at that level. There.....that wasn't so hard to say. And hey.....I don't think they're (the players) any less "manly" for having them.
Well as long as I'm allowed to chime in (with my very limited sports knowledge), rule #1 makes absolutely no sense. If you're down by 2 runs and a pitcher just gave up back to back HR's you're going to take the first pitch no matter what it is because of an unwritten rule? 7th game of a playoff game and you're down you're going to take a dead straight fastball? Uhhhh... no.
My "guess" is it's situational. Having never played at that level, though.....I certainly can't speak intelligently. The mere fact that there have been multiple back-to back-to back HR's in MLB tells me I'm onto something. Nobody's disputing your knowlege of "sports". I have no idea what your level of knowledge is in other sports. I can readily admit I'm ignorant to MANY sports' unwritten (and written) rules. There's nothing derogatory in that.
