Depends on how you're using them. I can gut, skin, and bone a deer on one, sometimes two. Elk with take three to four blades start to finish.
First couple times you use it? Probably a few blades per animal as you keep snapping them. Lol. I've cleaned two deer with the same blade though. An entire caribou with one blade as well. You'll likely break a blade by prying too much before one ever goes dull... They are literally surgery scalpel sharp. I bought a box of 100 blades for like $40 a few years ago and may honestly never have to buy a hunting knife again...
Matt I LOVE my Piranta and have never snapped a blade. I did three deer on one blade this past season before I noticed it becoming dull and changed it. I butchered an entire hog a couple weeks ago from start to finish with one blade and it is still ready for war.
I have two pirantas and like them a lot. One was a gift. Only time you will ever snap a blade is when trying seperate joints w the blade vs packing a saw. Hard to pop them lose without prying the blade too hard. Even still I've used mine on half a dozen animals or so over the past few years, and have still used less than 10 blades total
I've never snapped a blade in the newer model. The blades are thicker. I can process two deer before I feel the need to change. 3 if I am not caping. Contrary to belief you can re-sharpen / touch up the blades and they will last a little longer. My taxi re-sharpens them quite awhile before he will trash them. They are never as good as new. Well, at least with the effort I have put into it.
I first used them on my elk. I snapped two blades one one side! (This was doing the gutless method). When I started the other side I quit twisting the blade an have been fine ever since. I later did a Mule deer an white tail with the same blade. Once you figure out how NOT to break them they are great. I also have the piranha and wouldn't trade it for anything. Depends. I had two hog kills this weekend and went through two blades. I like them sharp and that the beauty of the knife.
I still do not have a Havalon as the butcher lite set from Outdoor Edge is still in my Pack but when I do I would opt for the larger of the two as the blade is longer. Havalon is in my opinion the best way to go for quick work.
There was a sale on these at ELK101 not to long ago. I am not sure if the deal is still valid over there.
