has turkey season given a quick fix to last until deer season comes, or do you just enjoy it as much or more than deer hunting? For me, it made it worse.. just being in the woods again hunting something mademe go into pre season scouting mode and looking for food sources and finding bedding areas, all while the damn turkey were gobbling!!! I couldn't help it, the deer hunter in me never sleeps....

I'm with you, VA. I'm in total turkey mode until it's quiet, all around. After that, boredum in the turkey woods = preseason deer scouting! (while hoping a gobbler sounds off again, at some point :d)
-And I think I've made a couple of key dicoveries this spring, as far as deer scouting goes

Nope, when I'm turkey hunting, I'm turkey hunting, I love it. I could care less about deer at that point.

I actually enjoy it just as much as deer hunting. It will be a LONG Summer though, I can tell you that for sure!

Actually im good to go, I had a great turkey season, very short but good. All the hours i poured in to shed hunting also doubled as my scouting ventures so actually im looking forward to moving on to other things. I still have some 3-d shoots to look forward to and a G2G in June with the boys  Oh, and its pool season :woot: :tu:

I have never gotten into turkey season. I prefer to bass fish and scout for deer in the spring and summer. Now maybe if I hunted on lands that actually contained turkey then I might get turkey fever.

I enjoy my turkey season MORE than deer season, so I can't really relate...I always look toward the next deer season, but turkey season is turkey season. I actually look for areas to try spring turkey season out in during deer season, quite the opposite.

I look forward to running minerals, cameras, and prepping stands this summer though....I enjoy the preperation of deer season nearly as much as my stand time.

Yes this is my first season turkey hunting, and I think I have really concentrated more on the up coming deer season I have already hung two tree stands during turkey season. So pretty much all it has done is get me revved up for deer season.

Every time has its events. I constantly catch myself saying I can't wait for bow season, but I enjoy the prep. It's nice to be out, but it doesn't compare for me.

I enjoy turkey hunting as much (sometimes more) than deer hunting, so I enjoy my time out there, and deer hunting is a bit far from my mind right now. Once turkey season is over, my focus will shift back to deer hunting. I enjoy being out there really no matter what.

I wasn't too amped about turkey season this year - so I went out and bought myself a couple new toys: video camera tripod and a crossbow. Something had to up the ante and make things a bit more challenging.

So, I managed to tag a bird on film, which was fun. I got to go back a place where it didn't matter what I shot, just so long as I put myself in a position to be successful. It's worked out so far, and I still have a turkey tag left to burn.

In 4 hunts, I've got two birds on video - one small one and one nice 3 year old. The thing that sucks is the bigger bird didn't offer much great footage (came in kinda fast, kinda quiet). I filmed it on my homeboy's camera. He was on the trigger. The problem I'm facing is that he can't figure out how to upload it in a digital format. So my best video killshot didn't make the cut. Despite the lack of quality footage on the big tom, I was zoomed in tight on the head. 20 yds. Ugh. I may never get to edit it. So sad. Great killshot. Double-backflip.

Anyway, yes. Turkey season gave me a one-month distraction on deer season, and it also served as a platform for me to get out there and find shed #20 for the season, which was a big deal for me. 2 personal goals fulfilled.

Next, I'm going to self-film my second bird being taken with the xbow. It's a bigger, clunkier weapon, and requires a certain kind of setup. I had one shot opportunity, but was pinned-down with the camera tripod in the way, so I couldn't swing. Tough break. I'm 100 percent confident that it'll happen sooner than later. I know I've got 3 full days and a couple mornings left. If I continue to bat .500, I'll have another one tagged and on film within a few days.

Although, I am cautiously optimistic, b/c I haven't seen/heard many big birds in my core areas this season. Something is definitely changing with regard to the flock dynamics in that general area.

That's how I feel. It was fun and GREAT to be in the woods with my bow but is was certainly not deer hunting.
