There is no question that this is a negative impact because of the technology. However, this issue isn’t something that is insurmountable. And the pros far outweigh the cons from my perspective.

Our students, while certainly utilizing their phones to the point of addiction at times (adults are just as guilty), still seem to develop their face to face social skills just fine. I'm talking 9-12th grade in our school. This may be a unique, non representative example of the rest of the country, but I doubt it. Like it or not, the technology is here to stay.

As one of todays youth (well I guess former youth), I will say that it has hurt society a TON.

Like mentioned...it had its positives and negatives. You know where your kids are. They have the ability to call for help almost anywhere. You can contact them almost anywhere.

As much as it pains me to say it, most people my age or younger are nancy tool bag dousches who dont know anything important about anything. My generation went from pokeman, to xbox, to smart phones. Most of us cant write cursive, have never written a letter and arnt even registered to vote.

Geeze this has turned into a young people rant. God do I hate young people.

Nobody writes in cursive, letters are inefficient, and being registered to vote? Meh.

You thinking it is absurd is what is absurd. You have what a couple months experience being a parent and now you think you're an expert on what is proper etiquette between parents and children? Keep coming back Hooker.

 What? I never said that. I just said it's absurd to consider rude to text for simple things. I text my wife, my Dad, my Mom, my sister, etc.

Writing in cursive has been known to stimulate your brain. Especially in younger kids.

    Yeah, that was good. Thanks

Porn's an issue even with married guys and guys with girl friends. Spending to much time one on one with yourself take away from to need and desire to be one on one with your wife or GF then other issues start coming up because your giving them the attention they NEED.

Sad really. It's like we'd rather pretend to drive a ferrari on playstation than drive one.

It's not just kids. My mother is horrible with her phone. Always on it. Always interrupting a conversation with the google "answer" to some rhetorical question someone asked 2 minutes ago. Like all technologies, it can be used & abused.

    So very true!

Matt, my daughter-in-law is an educator and her spelling is atrocious! Not only does it bother me when she misspells words, but it drives my son nuts! A recent example of her writing: "This project intails attension to detail and a wellingness to stick to it."

Yikes. I'm actually ok in that department unless I'm typing on my phone or wife's iPad ironically.

While my kids aren't in school, this is the way we plan on raising our kids. My brothers and little brother in law are addicted to video games and technology.

But I also think mom and dad play apart. I know that my parents both had to work do we did have a lot of video games. I guess I'm fortunate enough to be able to survive asa one income family
