I had a couple of txt yesterday from guys out hunting that lead me to believe we got the start of lock down going on right now in my area. One said he saw a big buck bedded out in the middle of open corn field with a lone doe milling around feeding. Another said he had a small 8 point bedded down with a doe in a thicket not 40 yards away for more than 3 hours. Then last night on my way home I saw the same thing myself. There was a nice 8 point not 50 yards from the road bedded. When I stopped to look at him a doe stood up out of the weeds a few feet away from him and they took off with him following like a puppy dog Anyone else seeing this also?
I don't believe the same thing is happening in my area. Still in the fairly early stages of the seeking phase here. Just young bucks bumping does for the most part.
Lockdown!!!! if there still a doe up here unbreed there is a buck not far away it seemed that was the case by mid last week but I'm also in Canada so I'm not sure if things get going a little earlier up here or not Dan
I think so also. I walked up on a stud of an 8 point buck bedded down with a doe on Sunday. He was at 45 yards, I was being blocked by a tree so drew and was going to let one fly but the fact how alert he was as hard as it was to do, I just let down and watch the two of them trot away. Would be nice to see him again this weekend!
no way. The bucks are cruising right now. I don't think the does have come into estrus yet. Maybe a couple but def not the majority. We are just now getting into the good stuff here in Iowa.
Ive heard mixed reports. Nobody saw anything yesterday, but deer are moving today. I think it all depends on where those hot does are.
The past week in south central Ohio the only chasing was being done was by immature bucks, minimal movement by the big guys. Since I been back in NY I am seeing the same however I am now getting some day time pictures of more mature bucks cruising. Should be good the next week irregardless of the weather.....just in time for the gun season in NY. Great( sarcasm ) . I will e switching states and hunting CT hopefully they are one the move there also.
I do alot of driving thru the country around the WI/IL border and have been seeing big ones during the day out in open fields. Today seen a nice 8 stand in an open field for 45 minutes without moving a step, staring at the bedded doe. This was at 9:30 am. Seen another 10 yesterday at 2:45 standing next to a doe. The doe was feeding and I actually got out of the truck and walked towards them. The doe seen me and came my directions, 75 yards away. I think she wanted me to spook the buck away!
I think it really depends on the area. But it seems that Charlie Alsheimer's theory about a trickle rut this year may in fact be true. I have seen some chasing, zero cruising and bucks are not bedded with the does. Last year the 10th, 11th and 12th were the absolute best for me. So far, I dont even have a mature buck in daylight on camera. It just depends on whether there is a hot doe in your area. I think the next week or two will be the best. I HOPE.
That's about how it is in my area. I've seen a few 2-3 year old bucks on cam during the day but have just started seeing them chase. Like you I'm hopeful for the next few weeks.
Watched two bucks tonight right at dark locked up going at it. Not 30 yds away a does was bedded I think the first wave of mature does are hot in my area... When the orange hits the woods this weekend its going to be a free for all!
ALL DEER must be on total lockdown here, nobody in our area is even seeing any. LOL Never seen a first two weeks of Nov like we are having here this year. ?
Just small bucks chasing some non receptive does here. Saw small 6 last night and again this afternoon trying to mess with a couple of does, but they were basically telling him to get lost. Then saw a STUD 300 yards away, and I mean a stud. Going to hunt him hard the next couple of days, but got to get a plan together.
Here in Tennessee the bucks aren't even hardly chasing yet. I figure this weekend or the next. If they are it isn't much.
