I think you can have your cake and eat it to, just take up traditional bow hunting. Here's the catch: It takes a lot more practice time to build confidence. Even then, you are relying a lot more on muscle memory, and in weather, especially cold, it's hard to be consistent. Unfortunately, with 100fps lower bow speed, lower KE, and smaller cutting diameter fixed blade broadheads, marginal shots have a much greater chance of missing their intended target and wounding or missing deer. I can vouch for all that. That said, shooting a deer with a traditional bow is a special kind of magic, and is definitely one of the proudest moments of my life! But I rarely have the time to practice enough to feel confident hunting with my recurve, and I would much rather have the increased range, arrow speed, KE, and cutting diameter, not to mention half the bow length ata compared to tip to tip. All of that equals more meat in the freezer, and a more consistently enjoyable hunting experience for me. I would definitely recommend hunting from the ground in natural blinds or even on foot, or just on a stool with your back against a tree. They all work for me! But ultimately I like the freedom of movement and the view I get in my treestand most of the time. I always recommend trying it all!
new bows that can drive tacks at 30,40 yards i feel are better than the old bows just for the simple fact that they are more accurate and there are less wounded deer than when shooting a pie plate at 30 yards was considered good shooting. and deer are not guaranteed to show up at the same spot every day. it is still a game of chance. There are many days that ive sat in the stand and didnt see a buck.
