I've been hunting ever since i've been able (15yrs, im 30) Last year i bought a harness. First time out this year i could barely notice it, it was a great buy. However, a doe and two fawns came by one morning and mulled around for a while. I am a right hander, and the doe approached behind me to my right. For kicks, i decided to draw and just 'set' the pin on her. i started to pull and realized that i could not, my harness blocked my arm from drawing. Am i doing something wrong or is the harness a piece of crap? Obviously drawing in one direction is not acceptable. any help appreciated!
Harnesses do limit some shots. I had to spin my stands on the tree to get to my shooting lanes. HSS makes a bracket that allows more angle I think.
You may have to adjust where you atatch to the tree. Higher up is better from a safety stand point, but depending on the tree & harness, I've lowered mine (to about the small of my back when standing) also to help with the shot you just descibed. One of the first things I check when seting up
It also could depend on your strap you are using. I ran into the same problem 2 years ago using the HSS Quick-Connect Tree Straps it at times limited my shots. So I went with this instead Rope-Style Tree Strap. http://www.huntersafetysystem.com/store/rope-style-tree-strap.html Allows you to get away from the tree more and gives you total range of motion.
my tether is only about two feet long and not adjustable. sounds like i may have to invest in a different/better one.....but i will try to lower the strap. Thank you for the help/suggestions! Happy Hunting
http://www.huntersafetysystem.com/store/360-extension-limb.html This is what I was talking about, though it is quite expensive.
I think u'd have come across this problem far before hunting season.its obvious u have not practiced with said harness, shame on u......lol J/K good luck....If u'r hand can ''slide'' through the straps u'r good to go as far as safety....
