Thanks for posting for all the people who believe they haven't and never will fall out.
Glad you're safe. As for the stands, accidents happen and stands like that are sold every day. I have a couple myself.

Maybe everyone should get in the habit of doing a bi-weekly check on any stand they have in the woods. It shouldn't be too hard at all. and maybe could have seen the ends frayed or whatnot, that would have alerted there might be an issue. Most people, myself included, have just never thought to check.

I've never been able to climb into my stands with a harness on so have always strapped in once up in the stand.....this makes me wonder if I should re-visit a better way to wear a harness while climbing too...

Also, all I have are metal cable stands...never had a problem, man this makes me uneasy.

Glad to hear you're okay man. Any kind of accident in the woods makes for a very sobering moment. I've never had to rely on my harness to save me, but I know a handful of people personally that have had it keep them from getting injured. A good harness isn't just for when you get in the stand, it's for when you're climbing it as well. A lot of people forget that.

Wow, thank goodness you're OK and here to tell the story. It just goes to show that even if you don't slip, these stands CAN fail from time to time.

Glad to hear you are OK. For those that don't wear a harness, it's just not worth the risk to not wear one. It' only takes one instance to change your life forever, or take your life. I use a system similar to the HSS Life Line, but I make my own. I use 1/2" rope rated at 1650lbs working load as my main line from the base of the tree to above my stand. Then I have a 3/8 rope tied in a Prusik knot on the line, and a heavy duty carabiner. This is a very simple but effective system. I can't fall any further than the length of my harness plus the length of the prusik setup. Maybe about 3 feet. I'm always attached to tree.

Glad to hear you are OK. Did you check the cables to see if they were tampered with?

Glad to hear your Ok....a good lessons learned. A good friend of mines season started out not so good while hanging a stand. His stand collapsed and he fell 20 feet shattering his lower leg. Now he has a rod down his leg, plates and screws. He's lucky it was just a broken leg and nothing else.

Thanks Guys. I spent some time checking over the stand this morning and that's the only explanation I have. I have 3 other stands in that general area and will have to take them all down and check them over. Completely at a loss for words that someone would do that.

You may also want to check out the harness manufacturers recommendations as I do not believe you're supposed to reuse the harness after a major incident.

Especially if it "unraveled" the sections that take the blunt shock out of the fall.

Man!!! The good Lord was on your side tonight bud!!! Glad you're ok...this is the first year I have ever started using a safety harness...and i have even been using it from the base of the tree all the way to the top w my climber...and even on the way down after the hunt...timed it the other night...takes me roughly two extra minutes total to go from 20 ft...two minutes are well worth saving the rest of anybodies life!!!

I was reading this post this morning your lucky indeed! I've always used a safety belt but it's been a pain in the ass and a POS after reading your post I went and invested in an HSS Ultra-Light this afternoon. Glad to hear your ok! I had a buddy who had the strap on his API cut half way through!!! Luckily he just happened to see it while grabbing ahold of his stand to climb into it. There are alot of real a-hole people out there in the bush now days who think NOTHING of their fellow man and who would get a chuckle out of hurting somebody or someones property!

If you think it was sabotage you need to get law enforcement involved. This is nothing to screw around with.

    Glad you are ok.

Glad you ar O.K. Been using a Loggy Bayou Transformer harness for years and just bought a Tree Spider. Never leave the ground without one on. How did you get down after you were hanging?
