we have both in our home..hardwood in hallway, living room, great room and in dinning room, we have tile in a three full baths and kitchen the mater bath tile is heated.. The bed rooms are all carpet...

I have noticed something odd now that it is colder down here... the tile [unheated] in kitchen other baths is actually warmer to my feet then the hardwood in the rest of the house...how is that possible wood vs stone and the stone is warmer?

anyone else notice that tile seems to be slightly warmer then wood floors I always thought it would be the opposite...
Actually if I had to do all over again I would put heated tile throughout the whole house..lol

Opposite in my house. The tile is freezing.

I think it has more to do with heating and what's underneath.

it could have something to do with the fact I have engineered hardwood and the house is mostly a monolithic slab..

Just the opposite here. We have in our master bath, but no radiant floor heating underneath (it was in place when we bought the place), and those are ICE cold with these temps we've been having. Hardwood in the halls and the kitchen are much warmer to the touch.

a word of advice if you ever re-tile a master bath go with the heated tile it adds a little to the cost about $800 for our tile job but was well worth it...

Absolutely. I will never have unheated tile in my next home.
