Well, it seems that MOST bucks in the area have shed their velvet already this year. The big 9 I have been seeing is still in velvet as of this week but the bigger 10 is hard horned....and GREAT looking! Checking in with you guys, borrowed a computer to get online...hopefully I will have mine back by this week. Alaska Deer are all at the taxi. Having a buddy do two euros for me on the smaller two, one hard horned and one velvet....my biggest and first buck I am having mounted in velvet....but it appears we MAY have to go with fake velvet as the velvet remaining on his seems to be slipping. I am FINALLY caught up with work, college, and the girlfriend to where I can actually hunt. Today was my season opener and I didn't even get to hunt do to work (which I am fixing to head back to, stopped for lunch). Maybe tomorrow.
Looks like youi have some good bucks running around. Don't wear yourself too thin buddy. The season just started!!
Nice looking buck there. I love the clarity of the photos from those cams too, and I'm thinking seriously about buying one. As far as the bucks in our area, some have rubbed off, and others are still in full velvet.
You've already shot too many P&Y bucks for one year Trev, I may have to come take care of that one for you!!! I got Josy's heads up to her over the weekend. The velvet slipped on her big fork while I was boiling out the head. The velvet on her monster got a little nick/rub on it during transport and didn't dry/preserve fully so it looks like we'll lose that too. It's just too damn hard to preserve that stuff. I doubt I'll even try again. It's too bad that fake velvet costs so much and looks so fake. Best of luck with the mounts.
Had this "close" encounter and it appears that our bucks have lost their velvet as this small guy showed me....
