"We do not inherit the Earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children." I know from the garden thread some of you might find this informative on this 40th anniversary of Earth Day. One small thing I created last summer to help out Mother Earth was build a rain barrel. A rain barrel is a great way to conserve and reuse water to use on your plants and garden. Normally, when rainwater pours off your roof and goes down your gutters it is usually lost through a storm sewer or oversaturates a small portion of your lawn. The problem with this runoff, especially in an urban setting, is this runoff picks up sediment, chemicals, oil, etc. and gets carried into your storm sewer which then can lead into our local streams and creeks. You can purchase a rainbarrel from multiple stores or find one online like this site here: http://www.composters.com/rain-barrels.php I use my rain barrel to water my gardens in my backyard where dragging 100 foot hose isn't very practical. If you are a hands on person you can create your own too. This website will give you all the information you'll need: http://www.cityofbremerton.com/content/sw_makeyourownrainbarrel.html Mine is located in the back of my garage where only I see it. It isn't very pretty but it works great.
i try and make sure my recycling is always more than my trash. my trash prob goes out to the sidewalk once every 2-3 months... granted i live alone and who knows what i put in the blue bin is ACTUALLY being recycled????
Well I been slacking lately guys but promise I will do better, so next time I'm up by 7mags place I'll be sure to stop and crap in his yard. LOL !
I'm not a Carlin fan by any means...but I couldn't resist.:D http://www.thefoxnation.com/earth-day/2010/04/23/watch-classic-carlin-earth-day-joke
It always struck me as kind of odd that outdoorsmen who spend a great deal of time in the woods and streams, aren't more likely to partake in more "enviro-friendly" actions in thier day to day lives.
My sentiments exactly. Planted 25 White Oaks and 25 Walnut trees after turkey hunting yesterday. We're planting 5000 more trees this weekend on our farm. I guess I'm a so called "tree hugger!"
tree hugger or not, that planting stuff is NO JOKE. i helped out my uncle and pops one weekend in HS and mannnnnnnnnnnnnn i was wore out! hope it went/goes well!
