Why haven't they explored a flat sales tax? Earn money, keep it its yours. Buy something (product or service) pay 10% or whatever the tax should be. Works on the state level, why not federal? it would eliminate gobs of money paying the IRS to go on witch hunts, loopholes, and people trying to prove on paper that they make as little as possible. From now on, it doesn't matter what you make. It'd probably curb a lot of the problems with America's debt/overspending problems as well. I don't claim to be an economist but it seems that it would work?

only flaw i see with a flat federal sales tax is that the states will insist on keeping theirs as well so then you got double tax on items. say state has a 9.5% and the federal is 10%, you are paying close to 20% more for an item which would actually make people reluctant to buy anything, espeically with lack of income and jobs.

We need a flat tax period. You earn $$$ you pay a percentage and that's it. No income tax return every year. But, there needs to be other fixes to go along with it. One, limit how long an able bodied person can receive welfare. Two, You apply for SSI or SSD, you have to have a followup with a gov't dr to verify you didn't buy your disability rating. Then, take all the out of work IRS individuals (without income tax returns, you don't need as many employees) and assign them to review medicaid/medicare claims to start nailing the thieves milking the gov't this way. Won't fix everything, but would get us headed in the right direction.
plus they need to quit wanting to mess with our retired/diability pay. i know a couple retired military friends of mine upset they rasied tricare prime a few dollars. i told them to go price the same coverage with a private insurer. they stopped complaining. but i agree with what you posted, especially the scam jobbers out there.
I pay 1/4 of my retirement pay for my wife's survivor benefit plan each month, I pay federal/state/social security taxes, I CANNOT get Tricare Prime because the closed the VA Hospital close to me. I paid out $4000 in deductables and copays last year. I was looked at as a second class citizen most of my military career and now....I wish I could get back up to second class.
A FLAT TAX is the biggest farce in the history of time. Make a flat tax, and you'd see LOTS of expenses show up that otherwise go unclaimed. Part of our problems lies in the group that are being catered to by the entlitlers. 4 yr limit on welfare is another farce, they just find a loophole, and make it into SSI. MANY people on SSI are lazy worthless human beings who won't work irregardless. You can get on SSI for being an alcoholic, and the stipulations aren't that difficult to meet, I've seen it. This country has one of the HIGHER tax brackets for working citizens in the world, the HIGHEST for businesses, and the MAIN reason those taxes are needed is because of the inordinate numbers of people on government handouts.... Ask Chris about his pay being withheld in the state of PA while they state continued to pay people on welfare a few years ago.... And ask how many tickets those PA state troopers were writing while they weren't being paid.... That state is a smaller model of what is happening on a bigger scale!!!! And we don't even want to get into the cost that DRUGS in this country are costing the American Tax-payers. I see an overdose at least once a week, and we're not talking prescription stuff, and each of these costs on avg. $10,000, of which about 90% are people receiving Medicaid. Start drug testing these people and withhold their money if they are peeing hot, it would solve a LOT of problems. Give them a card that will only buy GENERIC brand foods, nothing more..... Tighten up our prisons, quit letting people live in "resort" prisons, and make it a true punishment.... Lots of problems that are the root cause of our tax problems, and MOST OF THEM are problems the people on the LEFT don't want to deal with. AS far as Hank comparing Obama to Hitler, he didn't necessarily say "Obama is just like Hitler" he said that "Obama and Boehner golfing together is like Hitler and Netanyahu golfing." If he'd said Boehner was Hitler and Obama was Netanyahu, I'm sure someone would be complaining because he compared a Muslim with a Jew, so he kept Obama and Hitler in the same camp, which Muslims and Nazi's do have that in common in general, or at least it might appear that way by the standard of most stereotypes.... Hank's song was pulled because many people took it as a racial insult, and ESPN's response was overblown to say the least.... If I were Hank, I'd just take my millions and tell them to kiss my a$$.....
Ya know.. after reading through this thread I've come to the conclusion that I'm proud of a lot of you dudes on here you have come along way over the past few years and finally recognize the stupidity of their parties (both parties). Neither one of them cares about us unless we have a donation to make. But.. on the other hand I still see some things that are just "outta whack" if you were to ask me. For one.. why does anyone feel the need to attack Social Security or Welfare like their totally the ones to blame for all this.. ?? Sure there are peeps out there who take advantage of it.. but that goes without saying in anything we'll ever discuss.. saying SS or welfare receiving peeps are to blame for all this is like saying every Muslim is a terrorist.. and clearly they are not. Not even close. I'm not saying we should look totally away from the bad seeds who are taking advantage of the system.. I'm just saying we should look at dollars first and make those cuts rather than looking at the pennies of these two programs. In Libya.. American taxpayers spent over 100 million a day.. for like 3 months for a war we "didn't even do anything" in. How bout we first start talking about that BS and cutting that BS first. History repeats itself.. and has so for the entire existence of mankind.. these wars are whats killing us more than anything.. night and day more. The french spent themselves into revolution in the late 18th century.. the russians did so not more than 25 years ago.. and we're doing the same. You want to cut something.. cut the war spending because all we're doing is burying ourselves at a price of about 700 million a day times the past 10 years. Think about that the next time you wish to cut the spending on welfare recipients or social security. Those programs are pennies in this American economic barrel. As far as Hank Williams comparing Hitler and Obama.. well.. not so much.. history would have another thing to say about that. Plus.. who cares what an entertainer thinks politically anyway.. they're paid to juggle.. not spew intelligent remarks. But.. I do like some of his music though.. always have.
Then the entire foundation of our country is wrong? Anyone that is able to think for themselves and has the ability to reason by sorting fact from fiction can learn something when politely debating politics.
With flat tax, there are no expenses to claim or anything else. If the tax rate is 7%, you pay 7%, end of story, no refund, no nothing. Everyone pays the same and all the deductions and claims/returns go away.

Because anyone who thinks entitlement programs don't dwarf any other expenditure for our country is flat out confused. Let's ignore the fact that they breed apathy and create a pit that actually punishes those on it for working. It s a culture and way of life. I've traveled with my dad to several of the 40 SS buildings he manages, and it is flat out sickening. Let's stick with JUST the numbers on it, this video helps put it in perspective... Now these programs being the BIGGEST problem, doesn't excuse smaller problems such as the excessive overseas expenditures like this Libya Fiasco, but to say these are the biggest problem is flat out inaccurate.
