Season started September 15th, I have one stand that I rotate on trees I trimmed out in August, but I just came across two more climbers. I wanna hang them in new areas, where I have seen more active buck movement. What is a good rule of thumb when hanging stands mid-season?
Dont leave the climers! I had a spot I left a climer a few weeks before I wanted to hunt my guess is the deer got used to seeing it there and when it Wasent there (up the tree) they spooked from 30 yards away with a good wind ! set your tree up cut your lanes get out of there! This happed years ago I have a hang On stand there now but if theres a climer in the tree next to the tree im up I always see more deer! I dont no superstition maybe?
quickly and quietly.....if your seeing good mature bucks i know from experience if you happen to kick out a big boy hangin those you have a pretty good chance of never seeing that deer again...given they are climbers though i would assume you are just leaving them set up at the bottom of the tree so it should be a real quick process and you should be ok.....i have and many others i'm sure have moved stands in the middle of the day and seen or killed deer out of the fresh set that same night....just be aware of your surroundings as always and set em up to knock em down!!!
I havent had issues although Im sure if you kick up a big boy he aint comin back. Like others have said, quickly and quietly. But don't rush when making sure you have shooting lanes cut. Good luck!
