Ive never hung one before so naturally I have a few questions? Let me start by saying I think im gonna use some sort of climbing sticks, but may just use screw ins ...not to sure yet. As far as the hangon itself I plan to get something cheap that has a decent platform, ****s had one that I liked I think it was like $80. But anyway questions...

Do they make something like a harness where I can lean back and set up the sticks as I climb up the tree?

Is it gonna be fairly easy to do by myself?

While I dont think ill have any problems, what are some anti theft ideas?

Tips on overall form and apporach?

    Thanks

get a linesman's rope to use while your hangin the stand and to use as you set up your sticks. I'm new to the hang-on thing too and will be doin all this for the first time (at least to hunt) this weekend. I have gone through the whole drill at home in a tree just to get the technique down. ALWAYS USE A HARNESS!

btw, I bought a hang-on/sticks combo from an online guide place for 80 bucks. Its a small stand but i got 20ft of sticks with it for that price. I'll know whether I like this type of huntin without being out a ton of money.

Does your safety harness have a loop on each side for a linesman's rope? That's what I use when hanging stands. Just lean back and have both hands to work freely with.

I use a Hunter Safety System, and it has loops for a linemans belt. Makes things safer while your hanging on with one or no hands.

It should be fairly easy to do by yourself, a lot of people hang a stand each time they go hunting.

I use a cable and a padlock, but that doesn't make it impossible to steal.

I ask about the theft because the guy on the neighboring property asked me if I had seen anyone down there that is not supposed to be, I did not. He told me someone stole the bottoms off of all his ladder stands and took the SD cards out of his cameras. So obviously im trying to avoid this

This is how I use the Treehopper belt. I use it for the stands I hang in the summer. When I am using a mobile lock-on set-up during the season I use the lineman's belt that comes with my Muddy harness.

I use the Muddy for both hanging and hunting. I've used the crap out of it, it's held up.

here's my anti theft system that i use. i took the climbin sticks and welded big eye-hooks on back, and i got about 30 feet of 3/8'' logging chain and 3 master locks, painted it all green, and locked it up like a brinks truck......had several stolen before i did all this. can't you tell?

http://whitetailsinc.com/page4/page4.html At 5:24 he explains his linesmens belt/Muddy setup. Works great, I even use a simlar setup on certain sets I have after they are set for hunting. Ill use the prusik and a climbing rope and no linemens belt when I climb up trees. My harness is attached to the prusik with a carb like normal as if I were in the stand only its on the climbing rope as opposed to an anchor strap. As I climb I slide the knot up with me and Im always secure.

For climbing sticks I like to have ones that are not connected so you can go around and up odd shaped trees. I like it use a harness that can with a treestand and then I just use a linemens rope on it. After hanging many stands you will learn that you want a light easy to hang stand compared to a big stand.

The easiest way i've found to set the stand is to take a rachet strap after your steps are up and a carabener attached to a pully.

Strap the carabener and pully at the height you want it run the rope through the pully and back to ground .

Tie the stand and raise to height then you can tie the rope off to a small tree or something so you dont have to hold the stand while you secure

sounds complicated but its not that bad.

Big Game Boss XL Hang-on stand. HSS Pro Series Vest. Comes with a lineman strap, which, is extremely handy when hanging/taking down treestands.
