Whenever i handle raw deer, either field dressing, skining, boning, or cubing meat and grinding it, the skin on my hands and arms gets like tiny little welts, almost look like big mosquito bites and they itch something terrible.

Anyone else get this? Any ideas?
Ill typically wear gloves when handling raw but it doesnt always happen

The pictures might not look impressive but with the naked eye they are blotchy red and the itch is horrible

First picture is index finger second is top oof my hand

Could it be the pelt and not the meat?

    Weird!
My Brother-in-law broke out in blisters while helping me with my Doe last month. He's in his early 60's and probably dressed/processed 100's of deer in his life but this year was the first time he's ever had a reaction to deer. He does have shell fish allergies and has to carry an epipen for bee, hornet stings etc. but he's never had a reaction to deer. He ended up taking Benadryl for the blisters and they went away fairly quickly. They only showed up where he'd touched raw meat or blood so they didn't show up all over his body (hands and forearms). We'll be hunting again this weekend so hopefully well be able to find out if it was only that deer (maybe she ate something he is allergic to) or if he has a whole new allergy. It's weird nonetheless.

I tried spitting in some dirt rubbing the mud on the spots and then used a bandaid to tape a benadryl to it, it didn't do much

Try wearing rubber gloves. It could maybe prevent whatever reaction you are having. Does it happen when you handle raw beef or anything?

I am terribly allergic to deer hair. After I shoot one I have clothes/gloves I only wear while handling deer. Always have to be careful to keep my hands away from my face as well.

I do try to wear gloves, but but you get some on your wrist or forearm.

I have never had a reaction to beef

Many people are allergic to deer hair/dander. When you gut or skin an animal you get tiny bits of broken/cut hair particles on you. If you wear long sleeves and rubber gloves you can cut the reaction to a minimum. You may want to check with a doctor on what to use. I have had issues years ago when I tyed flies. Deer hair bass bugs were a problem when it came time to cut and trim. By the time I got 7 or 8 bugs done my eyes itched so bad I had to stop for the night and take Benedril

I think I'd go visit an Allergist and get tested to find out what is causing it. I believe if just touching the meat does that to your hands, my concerns would be What is it doing to your stomach and over-all health if not eaten well done? They say "some" people can get a red meat allergy after being bitten by a Lone Star tick. g/l
