I have a Nikon ProStaff 3 I paid $149 for on sale and it has been great. It is two seasons old and the same battery is still going. It is clear and bright.

The Nikons have a pretty good like and Bushnell has some that aren't bad. But if you decide that you want a great one, the Leupold RX-1200i with angle compensation and TBR would be one to look at. It's the one I have.

I looked at the Halos, Prostaff 3's, and RX600. I didnt like the leupold which was very surprising, the halos felt cheap and i read alot about the battery life problem, i ended up going with the Prostaff 5 which cabelas had on sale and got it for $180 out the door. It was more than i wanted to spend at the time but looking back i'd do it again in a heartbeat. I love the rangefinder, super bright in all conditions, didn't fog up on me, and i can get accurate readings past 500yds easily

Have you tried Lithium batteries. I had a Z6X and the battery is still going strong in it.
