I've been ordered to take the day off so I'm dawdling around here on BH.com. I think I'll lay out in the backyard later and get some sun while the girls play netless badminton. It is apparently a rule in netless badminton that you have to shriek every time you make a difficult return shot.

I was assigned a new student to mentor yesterday. I was assigned my first year to an ardent feminist. I think my prof thought it was a good idea to assign me to another female, but it didn't work out at all. I am the exact opposite of an ardent feminist and she kept trying to convert me. This led to a kind of a personality conflict. So our prof made a switch which worked out better.

This is my second student to mentor and he seems like a very serious dude. He wanted to get started early rather than wait until Fall. Since I'm considered about the most serious person in the lab, he got assigned to me. We'll make a weird pair though, since he's six foot six and I'm four foot seven. I told him if he wants to talk to me, he'll have to sit down so I don't get a stiff neck looking up at him. His first question was to ask me how old I am. He seemed relieved to know that I'm not really a little kid. I just look like one. I gave him the tour and assigned him some reading and a copy of the lab procedures manual to discuss on Monday. I think he's going to enjoy it here and he'll work out just fine. I tried to let him know that this lab can be really fun and everyone is really nice including our prof.

My husband is planning for us to go out in the woods on Sunday. It's supposed to rain a little which will make sneaking around quietly a lot easier. We should be able to get close to some of the critters. We want to scope out how many young deer there are. The girls are pretty excited about it - really looking forward to it.

I think we'll go to the market for some vegetables this afternoon. And Miriam is planning to make noodles. We're almost out.

And the girls have persuaded otousan (father) to take us out for pizza tonight. Normally, they call him daddy, but it's the formal otousan when they want something. It's the opposite with me. I'm always okaasan unless they want something, then it's "mama."

Well, my day may not sound exciting to you guys, but I'm excited just thinking about it.

I work as a team lead in the conditioning/receiving tower for Pioneer seed. Nothing too glamorous, but it pays pretty well for around here.

Breakfast is now over. Simple breakfast after gorging on pizza and beer last night. (Actually, beer for my husband, sake for me, and water for the girls. They're not allowed to have pop.)

The girls are starting to resist drinking milk. Miriam started it and now Michelle is following older sister's lead. I'm not sure what to do about that. I'm sure they get enough calcium from our food, but kids are kind of supposed to drink milk. Although I didn't - hated the stuff, still do.

What happened with those IRS mailboxes/Emails and destroyed hard drives is a complete sham and cover-up. First of all, in my Email environment it wouldn't have been possible to delete them like that or do a cover-up. Second of all, if it did somehow magically happen I would have been held responsible. I only WISH I was the IRS Email admin, I would have those liberal idiots sweating and trying to bribe me, then I could hand over the Emails along with proof of bribery.
