So before clicking on the video, I wanted to explain what happens in it. I had this deer walk by my stand this year and my buddy Matt was in a stand about 75 yards behind me. Knowing I wasn't going to shoot since I'm after mature deer, I was hoping he would go to Matt who has yet to ever kill a deer in his life. He's been hunting with me for 8 years and he's been learning, practicing, and patient as all get out but things just never lined up for him. This year was his year. The deer was headed in his direction and I was just filming for footage to add into a few Webisodes we are working on. After hoping the deer would go his way, a few minutes later I heard a thwack and heard trees getting laid OUT...I mean flattened. This buck came screaming back to my direction and slammed into the tree (which you will see in the video) and flipped back towards the direction Matt was. I grabbed my camera as quick as I could and filmed the last few moments and my conversation with Matt on the phone letting him know that his deer was not even 10 yards from the base of my tree. His shot was a beautiful quartering away shot that went down into the pocket of the heart at a steep angle (which you can see in the aftermath). I couldn't have been more proud of him and I've been sitting on this video for a while. Take it as a sneak peek of a Nine Acre Archery Webisode. There will be added commentary in place of the text and what not but let me know what you think. Nine Acre Archery - Matt's Buck
That's awesome! He must be very excited! I must say though that it was a little graphic and I personally would probably refrain from putting the little bit of footage where the blood is spilling out on the Internet...but otherwise, very cool!
I was undecided about that. For a hunting show, that's what happens in hunting so I'm not sure if there is an issue with that or not. Is it considered distasteful or just unecessary? For this particular hunt, since Matt wasn't actually filming or being filmed, showing this is part of the story. Does political correctness drive the reason not to show it or is there another reason? I mean who are we trying to fool - hunting is hunting and involves killing an animal. I get why they may not show it on TV but this will be on the internet and I do not believe in censorship. I ask these questions with serious thought in mind, maybe one of the BHOD staff can comment.
Great video. Great story. I don't see anything wrong with the blood scene because I am a hunter and I understand that means quick easy death for the deer as opposed to no blood and gut shot. I would just disable comments on youtube if you haven't done so already. antis will be all over you
It's not available for search on YouTube. It is only there for hosting and then embedded on my site. Of course someone could get the link from my site and then pass it around but it's not available to the public/search. I did consider that part, I don't even want to bother messing with comments or the general uninformed/uneducated populace.
Could you PM me a link to the video? I cannot get on your website at my work. I'd love to watch it during my lunch break!
Doug that was awesome, thats what its all about. He made a hell of a shot, deer expired quickly! Tell him congrats from a fan!
