Im so sorry for your loss. I have a basset hound who is probably pushing 10 years old and I have had him for 6 or 7 years now. I couldnt imagine putting him down. They truly become part of the family!
Tough stuff right there. Sorry Rick. It's tough stuff. I put down my last pet with a 22. Broke my heart..... one of my deceased wifes pets. They just become such good friends and then it's time. Sorry for your loss.
This poem by Rudyard Kipling sums it up. The Power of the Dog There is sorrow enough in the natural way From men and women to fill our day; And when we are certain of sorrow in store, Why do we always arrange for more? Brothers and Sisters, I bid you beware Of giving your heart to a dog to tear. Buy a pup and your money will buy Love unflinching that cannot lie -- Perfect passion and worship fed By a kick in the ribs or a pat on the head. Nevertheless it is hardly fair To risk your heart for a dog to tear. When the fourteen years which Nature permits Are closing in asthma, or tumour, or fits, And the vet's unspoken prescription runs To lethal chambers or loaded guns, Then you will find -- it's your own affair -- But . . . you've given your heart to a dog to tear. When the body that lived at your single will, With its whimper of welcome, is stilled (how still!) When the spirit hat answered your every mood Is gone -- wherever it goes -- for good, You will discover how much you care, And will give your heart to a dog to tear. We've sorrow enough in the natural way, When it comes to burying Christian clay. Our loves are not given, but only lent, At compound interest of cent per cent. Though it is not always the case, I believe, That the longer we've kept'em, the more do we grieve; For, when debts are payable, right or wrong, A short-time loan is as bad as a long -- So why in -- Heaven (before we are there) Should we give our hearts to a dog to tear? I am sorry for your loss. I will share your feeling all to soon I am afraid.
Sorry for your loss Rick. I hate hearing these types of stories, and I dread the day I have to do the same again.
It's a day I dread myself, as I am a pet owner/family member lover (ie, she is like our child). I'm sorry for your loss. May you always remember the fond moments you shared with her. I am now going to go play with our little Sasha, and cherish the short time we have with her. As this post has made me very sad.
Also have had to put a few pets down over the years. Never gets easier but they are a joy to have until the dreaded day. We had to have Bandit put down last spring. He was 13. Great dog !! While we can never replace Bandit... it is hard not to enjoy the new pup. No matter how rotten she is !!!! Tim
So sorry for your loss. Some dogs come and go but there is always one that sticks out in your mind. My first bird dog ever i had to put down because of some really rare disease called blastomitosis or something along those lines? He was only 3 when I had to put him down but i could honestly say i loved that dog more than some of my friends lol. My mom took a picture with me and him right before I put him down and I'm balling like little school girl. Not one bit embarrassed by the picture though.
I am sorry... We had to put Princess down a couple months back. She was a solid White German Shepherd and developed Spinal Osteoarthritis and just couldn't get up one morning. I know it hurts for you... To quote Tom T Hall... "Old dogs care about you even when you make mistakes."
That's exactly what happened to my white shepard and had to put her down at the age of 10 twelve years ago.
So sorry for your loss. A few years ago I had to put my then 12 year sons beagle down. That dog and he were inseperable. Beagle was only 5, I hate Cancer. It never gets easier. I will say a prayer for you tonight.
