I headed out today to shoot some bows at Droptine Archery in Advance, NC. I had couple on my list to shoot and the BowTech Experience was one I them. With the reviews I I have heard and the CPX series I expected one awesome bow. Specs on this new bow sound pretty nice. Right with most of the other flagship bows of 2013. Most this year are hitting in the 330fps mark, around 32" ATA and 7" Brace height. The specs on this one are as follows: IBO: 335 Brace Height: 7" ATA: 32" Mass Weight: 4.2lb Let off: 80% So it's no 350fps bow but, BowTech says they listened to their customers and have them what they are asking for. Well, the fit an finish are nice just as they have always been when the bow is new. I don't know whether the limb finish issue has been address or not but, only time will tell on that. The grip felt pretty nice. It's not a target grip but, it is thin and does feel nice in your hand. The weight being 4.2lb wasn't really noticeable to me as I shoot a heavier bow and prefer a heavier bow. It felt nicely balanced in my hand. The part everyone seems to talk about is the draw. This to me is one of if not the most important part of a hunting bow. After all, being in a stand with your heart pounding is no place to have a stiff of choppy draw. I hooked my release and started back and was surprised at what I felt. Not in an oh my god this is awesome way as I have been hearing either. It starts off with almost a hump feel in the beginning then a second hump at about 4" of draw left. It was smoother than some BowTechs past but, not at all what I expected. Then it dropped off rather steeply into the valley. It didn't slam but, a noticeable drop. This particular bow was a 60lb bow and I am glad. i feel like a 70lb would be pretty unpleasant to draw. this 60lb gelt like I was drawing 68lb. At full draw the shooter can relax some but, it would pull some. Not jump really bad but, it would want to pull out of the valley if you get to relaxed. Holding the 80% let off was effortless as I would imagine any 80% let off would be. The back wall was solid as most bows are now. Had some slight give but, none the less solid. With the large cams I expected a nice string angle much like the Insanity felt. I guess the cams aren't quite as large which gives the steeper feel that most 32" ATA bows have. I'm not a fan of a steep angle but, it's not as bad as some I have felt. The hold was pretty steady. I wasn't shooting a sight on this one so as always, I have to go by how it felt. Seems like it could be a really nice bow to hold on target. As I looked the bow over for the first time, I wondered why it had so many dampeners all over it and this is why. I was shooting a 400+ grain arrow so it wasn't like I was shooting a light weight arrow to get speed out of it. When I released, the bow didn't kick nor did it violently vibrate but, what it did I have was a long drawn out vibration. Much like a tuning fork. It just rang is the best way I can describe it. It wasn't quite unpleasant and nothing a stab wouldn't take out but, it felt quite odd. After hearing all the hype and on top of that, the past bows that I have shot from BowTech I was really expecting something really great. What I Experienced wasn't the Experience I was hoping for. In all honesty, it was probably the biggest let down of the rear for me so far. It was almost as bad as the reveal at the ATA show. As all bows, it is up to every shooter to try out all bows before they settle on one. So no matter what I thought about it, go Experience the Experience for your self.
I've shot several different bows recently, lookin for the right one for me. I shot the experience and came to the same conclusion, it has a vibration on the shot that kinda rings(reverberated) through the riser. It has an audible buzz on the shot. I wasn't impressed. Also, aesthetically its an ugly bow. The limbs are really wide and those little revolver reloader looking dampeners look ridiculous and don't seem to be working as intended.(if the buzzing vibration is any indicator) Thanks for the excellent review.
Sticks...I'm not in the market for a new bow this year but did you by chance shoot the Ballistic from Mission? Just curious on how you thought it felt...can't remember if you'd discussed it or not.
The question wasn't directed at my but I did shoot the ballistic so I'll give my opinion. It's a smooth shooting little bow but has the same problem as all the other mission bows. The grip sucks. They are totally parallel on the sides. I like a grip that gets thinner at the top, so your thumb and index finger just fall into place. That's a personal preference kinda thing tho. The bow itself was smooth and quiet.
I have shot the ballistic as well and it will more than likely be my bow next season. Shoots great and there wasnt a big enough difference to me between it and the creed to justify spending that much more money.
There should have been a big difference considering the creed is a single cam. do you mean the Chill? Tiny, I didn't shoot the Ballistic. I was going to but, the dealers demo bow had an issue. I was looking it over before I shot it like I always do when I saw that the bottom cam had been leaning to the point of rubbing the cable. Had rubbed clean through the serving and into the string. I decided I'd rather not shoot it. Looking over it and it didn't seem to have huge differences over the Chill. I didn't see $300 worth of difference. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
