Had a shoulder shot- no luck

    Pushed my luck on a 45 yd shot and nailed the shoulder. Very minor blood trail. Trailed him 600yds. Hope to see him again. Illinois public land buck. Frustrated to have a wounded deer. At least I have him on camera.

    That sucks. Sorry to hear that. Keep at it I'm sure if he's around he will show himself sooner or later.

    Not really that far considering I regularly take mule deer out to 55 yds. Was threading the needle between oak trees. First shot found a limb on the way out. I think my leaning to avoid the limb might have thrown me off a bit. Almost wish I had aimed a little too far back rather then going for the heart shot. Although I must say that I did pass on another 8pt at 40yds last night just to make sure and get a really solid shot. Had the 8pt, a fork horn, and a spike engaged in battle right at 40 yds. Was the coolest thing to see and hear, but fighting deer are not good targets.
