I am looking to purchase an H&R Ultra Slug Shotgun for my Christmas present this year. I was wondering if anybody had any knowledge and advice about whether I should buy a 20 or 12 gauge in this model. I appreciate all opinions in the matter. Thanks, Sport4
I have a 12 guage H&R single shot slug gun. It is not the super slugger. It is the model with the black synthetic stock...it is light and it shoots straigh as can be. It does cick like a mule and is so loud, my ears are ringing Sunday night from a Saturday morning shot. It is a great gun and I am not broke because of it's huge price. I have a Pentax Gameseeker Scope on it, that is clearly not zero'd in any longer, or I would have hit the buck.
I have one, it has the wood stock. Mine is in 20 gauge and we sighted it in at 75 yards. All three bullets were touching in the bullseye. That was shooting hornady sst sabot slugs 2 3/4. I have a nikon scope. They are great guns!!I got a limbsaver recoil pad for it, and it kicks like a .22. It shoots amazing for a slug gun. Nice, cheap, great quality gun.
I bought mine at Gander Mountain about a year ago. It was not bad at all. Maybe under $200? The scope on mine was almost that much?
$179.99 Not a bad price....this is what I have! http://www.gandermountain.com/modpe...ra_Slug_Hunter_Shotgun&aID=510D5&merchID=4006
rsf31tmp, That Ultra Slug looks a lot different than the Ultra Slugs I have seen, and it is a lot less expensive. Here are the ones that I have seen, http://consumer.gzanders.com/.
Yeah I've got the laminate stock with the thumbhole in it. I have the 12 gauge version with a Cabelas Slugger scope ($100) on it and it is right on at 50 yards and then at 100 yards with the next lower BDC reticle. I shoot Hornady SST slugs through it and love the gun. I paid $300 for mine. http://www.hr1871.com/Firearms/Shotguns/ultraSlug.asp I've got the Ultra Slug Hunter Thumbhole Stock.
Yes, the version you are looking at is almost twice as heavy as the one I have. There is both good and bad with that version. It is much heavier and the barrel is made of a much heavier gauge of steel. If you are going to carry it very far or hoist it up a tree it is going to get heavy fast. With a scope and sling, it will weigh close to 9-10 pounds. The smaller barrel and synthetic stock make mine much lighter. However, mine has a mule kick! With the heavier gun and barrel, some of that kick would be taken away.
