my brother just shot a good buck (his first) and hit him 8-10” behind shoulder. Dead center he said as far as up and down. My advice go him was wait at least 6hrs before tracking. I also have a picture of the fletching on arrow. Thanks for any advice.
I'd back out. It can't hurt, unless it is going to rain. Sent from my SM-G930V using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
6 hours on a liver shot, 8 hours minimum and 12 or more for a gut shot. 8-10" isn't very far back in all actuality. There is a large killzone behind the leg which is why this year I have been shying away from the "tuck it tight behind the leg" mantra. Aim small, miss small is tried and proven, no doubt. For a first buck or any deer, missing small is a hard one to accomplish. Aiming a bit back leaves margins of error in both directions. Post up the fletching pic if you can, what did shot impact site look like? Blood, hair, etc....
Wait. You won't regret it. I had a very similar shot. Deer ended up going 450 yards. You don't want to rush it and push him. Typically, liver shots travel anywhere from 200 yards to 1/4 mile. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
Wait until tomorrow morning. I pushed a liver shot deer once and got really lucky to find him on a grid search more than 3/4 mile from my stand. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Bowhunting.com Forums mobile app
He waited 6 hrs went back and looked, he tracked blood a long ways but no deer. I sent him the link for dog trackers hope he gets with them and he can find it.
Didn’t end well they lost blood last night called a dog to help and it tracked it further but ended up with nothing. Glad he tried all options, maybe he hit further back that what originally thought.
