Purchased a new 12 gauge for waterfowl. Pulled it out Thursday and barrel was all rust. Only gun in the safe - but alas, need to stop it.

Anyone recommend a certain dehumidifier for a safe? It's a large 48 gun safe it that matters any.

    Thank you!

Instant rice bags? Never heard of that, but makes sense.

Before Saturday, no gun has never been out. A friend of ours has the same gun and had the same thing. Doesn't sound as extreme as mine was - but still had it turn on him.

I need to get one in mine too. I have the silica bags and they’ve worked so far but a dehumidifier is far better option.

Where is the safe located? Want to make sure you try and have it in a location with as little temperature change as possible, also not by sources of water like showers or laundry where dampness is more common.

Silica bags have always done me well....granted every year round Christmas everything gets a yearly cleaning and solid oiling. Crazy how so many guns but yet I rarely use or grab any of them LOL (if the wife asks, I use them all, need them all or inherited them all)

I have my safe in the master bedroom closet. I don’t have anything in it. I may need to check.

I have a very small house - it's in the corner of the living room. There was no other place it could have went. One wall has a bay window - other has a french door.

Does the sun beat directly on it? That could cause temperature shifts and increase moisture problems. Could you build a wooden box around it to keep it from direct sun.

Would still use something to pull humidity out of it also.

That part we're good - the sun cannot hit it at all! Always in the dark corner.

That's good. sounds like it is just humidity and maybe a gun extra susceptible to rusting.

Besides dehumidifying, I'd think about one of the temperature and humidity monitors so you can know the condition within the safe without having to open it.
