With the terrible incident in Aurora, once again the gun control roaches are coming out of their recesses to attack again. The attached is my public response: Turn the sarcasm switch on here. While we're on subjects that seem controversial here, let’s talk guns. At least we'll use guns into the segue (pronounced segway) into what I want to say. For the sake of this argument, let's say guns kill people and therefore we need more gun control. We can look back in history at some other murderers and get their tools of death controlled too. Let's start with knives. Knives have been the instrument of death for many, many people. So we need to control knives too. Hammers - Hammers are one of the preferred weapons of motorcycle gang members to kill others. Hammers go on the list with knives. Then, there are baseball bats. Baseball bats have been the source of many blunt force trauma deaths. On the list they go. Since playing baseball is the "national pastime", does that mean we've been turning our children into murderers by letting them play/watch baseball? What have we done? Garrotes - garrotes have been made of many things such as rope, piano wire, telephone cords, etc. All of those have to be on the list too. Rocks! The Bible even documents it was a rock that killed Goliath! Rocks, a must on the list. Tree limbs - It's documented through the children’s saying "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me." Trees need to be on the list. But wait, that aforementioned saying says "words will never hurt me" and we know that this isn't true because saying mean things to another is considered to be part of bullying and hate crimes. Someone's words could cause someone else to commit suicide, thus resulting in homicide by suicide. So, speaking has to be on the list. Vehicles - too many news stories about people getting struck by a vehicle and dying. Definitely need vehicles on that list! Probably up there with guns is where vehicles should be. I know that there are many more things that kill people out there that we need to protect ourselves from, but I don't want to sound overzealous or anything. It's amazing all these items that when they come into contact with humans automatically take a mild mannered human and make that person their tool of evil. The common denominator in all these killing machines is the human. So, the last thing to go on the list has to be mankind. Sarcasm turned off. If anything, we need to remove people who are murderers from society for the rest of their life. Then and only then will tools not kill people.
don't forget the Borden murders...got to outlaw axes and the splitting mauls are next...oh and those little concealable hatchets too. We don't have any practical use for axes anymore anyway, what with all the CHAINSAWS available - but wouldn't that be like the assault weapon/machine gun of the woodcutter family??? --then on to the small kitchen appliances such as the toaster(in the tub) and the cast iron skillet(to the head) and then all the stuff under the sink or in the cupboard that has been used to poison thousands of husbands.......
Not to mention all of the ticks, wasps, bees, snakes, scorpions and other venomous thingys. Got to put a ban on those too.
Unfortunately, murder is something we will always have to deal with as a human race. This latest incident according to the media, this man was completely off if the radar. No record, no violent history, nothing. Something was wrong somewhere but, not visible to the rest of society. If we (generalized we) want to stop murder, we need to start at the source by figuring out what mental signs to look for and stop them when they are young. Then again, wouldn't that be very humane now would it?? Does every single person that has this mental issue or jean end up murdered? More than likely not. Kind of like all legal gun owners (and yes he was legal) aren't murderers. We all must have some jean that makes us more likely to enjoy a firearm than others. It doesn't matter what weapon is used, a murderer will murder. Would he have murdered or injured as many? If that was his goal, he very well could have if he had planned it differently.
Ok, I fixed it and gave you credit for the fix! Now I must go to my "safe place" to recover from being castigated by a young girl half my age!
Hey Stick what kind of jean? Denim (Since we've got spelling correction going on in this thread already, I'm pretty sure you mean gene. )
See what you started Christine! Rabble Rouser! Pot Stirrer! Boy, sometimes I think Kendall doesn't know what he's getting into! (I would put LOL here, but then Justin would be talking about revoking man cards, so I'll refrain.)
I approach this from a unique perspective. I knew and worked with a mass murderer who killed (shot) 7 and then himself. I considered him a work place friend. There were no warning signs that I could tell. We spoke at length about hunting and guns and gardening and many other things you talk about with co-workers over a long period of time. In this case, it was a series of stressors that hit him all at once. He was losing his job with us, he had recent issues at home and his church leaders (and a particular sermon) was the final straw. His was not (that anybody could tell) a long term planed murder. He just snapped and acted out. Many of my colleges are not US citizens and come from a variety of countries where gun ownership is not allowed. As a gun owner and hunter (one of the few in my place of business) I’ve had some interesting discussions with these people that just don’t understand gun ownership and after to talking with them can tell they this America is a gun crazy country. Some actually live in fear while residing in America and cant fathom why anybody would need a gun. I do my best to explain but rarely get any of them to understand.
Ironically that theater was a gun free zone. For some reason he did not follow the rules. Sent from my SCH-I500 using Tapatalk
So we add illegal possession of a firearm to his murder charges? Big whoop, criminals will be criminals, no matter what gun laws are enacted. CCs are a bit like lawyers in that the best use for them is protection from others who are carrying them with the intent to use them illegally and there are, always have been, always will be nuts running loose. As far as sanctioning all guns, as some would do, give me a break! There aren't enough police in all 5 branches of the military to even begin to gather them all and I just don't think Obamunism is going to be around much longer anyway. That being said; before the "residents" remarks yesterday, the African American church choir dancing and carrying on was completely tasteless and made a total mockery of the pain the people of Aurora and the people of America have suffered. Could not believe it. What a total buffoon!
Did you guys see that he had a 100 round barrel magazine on the assault rifle and that the gun fortunately jammed. It could have been MUCH worse. I know it is not a popular opinion, but again, it makes me wonder why those high capacity magazines should ever fall into civilian hands. To me, the downside far outweighs any upside for recreation. Just my unpopular two cents on the topic, but a good example.
Any 1st year high school metal shop student can make a high capacity clip for virtually any clip-fed auto loader; they are pretty cheaply made.
So, about 1 percent of the population might be able to make one. Not sure I follow the logic here? An equal number of people are able to construct explosive devices, but they are highly illegal and the penalties for doing such are severe. We have been down this road before but I just dont see the banning of high capacity magazines as really being gun control. I have yet to hear a good reason to allow high capacity magazines besides the common complaint of taking away my right to enjoy it for recreation. And I really dont see that as being a serious need. Maybe a want? Just imagine what that theatre would have looked like if the assault rifle he was carrying had not jammed. Just imagine......and then tell me why such a device is necessary for recreation. And then tell those families that lost loved ones why we should make those tools readily available to civilians. I understand that this is a very polarizing issue and respect everyones thoughts on this. But, I have yet to ever hear a compelling reason why they should be allowed. I am open to anyones thoughts on this.
Guns and high capacity magazines don’t kill people, Evil and twisted minds of men lead them to kill people. His apartment was rigged to kill many people while he was gone. Evil in the hearts of men will forever exist and as such, so will killing. Penalizing the sane and law abiding will do nothing to stop mad men. In countries with strict gun laws, mass shootings still happen. The mad men who want to intimidate a society and draw attention to their causes or themselves will continue to do so even if the rest of us cant by high capacity magazines. If they cant get their hands on guns and bullets they will use bombs.
