When you average it out, around 30.00 dollars per gun.

Did you expect them to pay retail? What does that have to do with it? 40% didn't even work!

32000 / 746 = 42.90 take into that that more than a third were for ornamental use only, and you see another failed feel good government program financed buy tax payers dollars that does little to stop crime.

Now if handguns inc.or some other private company feels this is a good idea, let them collect money and pay criminals for criminal activity buy its not the governments place to coddle these thugs.

I think it was a stupid way to run this type of program and I would not agree with them (buy back programs) if they are all run this idiotically.

If they only bought working guns and used seized money to do it, then I have no problem.

As I read it there were 746 total guns taken in and of the 746, 294 of them were non working,
I see where your are getting your numbers if I have these numbers wrong.

Either way its not a good idea,if you knowingly purchase stolen items you will be arrested, surly not rewarded for it as these people were.

I wonder how many knives, baseball bats, and other fun little things people use to maim and kill other people as opposed to guns?

Instead of a gun buy back program we should have an IQ buy back program......if your IQ is below a certain level you are going to be dropped off in the Galapagos islands with a "sink or swim" end game that would make Darwin happy.

I wish I could find the story, but a NRA group in Illinois took several non-working and a couple of pellet guns to a Chicago buy back program. They collected somewhere around $6,000 and then hosted a kids shooting camp with the money.

The probably buy them back for operations like "Fast and Furios". They give this guns to mexican drug cartels, so that they will eliminate other cartels, and in exchange they get a free pass to run drugs over the border. It's a win win.

I checked with a Sheriff's Lt friend of mine about buy backs and he said here the serial numbers are run before any monies are paid out. If they come back hot, the seller gets free room and board at the pokey.

In Chicago it's no questions asked. (tho' you'll note that one detective did ask multiple questions to the GSL guys)

There is a big police presence. NO criminal with half a brain would anywhere near the area. Besides, what gang-banger is going to trade in his functioning weapon for a measly $50-100 bucks?
