Buffalo is doing yet another gun buy back program ... am I the only one that thinks this is just a way for junkies to get cash for their fix?

What irks me the most is that it's done on the premise of making the streets safer .... does anyone really believe that?

    Thoughts?

Where is the cash coming from?
It would work if they busted every one that turned in a stolen gun. That way I might get a couple of mine back.

As long as they buy fully operational guns I have no problem with it. Even if it is a junkie selling for a fix that is a gun that cannot be used by the same junkie to rob someone for the money for a fix. It can also be a mother that finds a gun in her house that doesn't belong so she takes it in and sells it. There can be good scenarios or bad scenarios but, bottom line, if they are buying back fully operational guns I have no problem with it. Better something like that than ridiculous gun laws that accomplish absolutely nothing.

I agree that gun buy-backs will do absolutely nothing to "keep the streets safe", and most are probably selling stolen guns to get $$ for a fix.

Here in Illinois, the Socialist Republic of Chicago holds a buy-back program once or twice a year. Knowing this, a downstate gun rights group collects donated, unwanted guns all year and takes them to Chicago on the day of the buy-back. This last year they collected over $6000, which they then donate to a shooting camp for kids. I think they had to go to 3 different locations, because they cleaned the first two out of Visa gift cards.

Maybe they are using the money they confiscate from criminals? Do you know for sure they are using tax money?

It is stupid to buy a gun that does not work. If the point is to remove potential danger then buying a broken gun is idiotic.

That sounds like a great result from the buy back program. Kids benefit from it. Maybe they should do it more than twice a year.

If tax money is used then that is just as stupid as buying a broken gun.

How much do they pay for the guns? I am thinking "opportunity" here to buy/sell some good guns at a discount. Let the city get the junky ones that they are going to destroy anyway and sell the rest at a reasonable profit to legitimate gun buyers.

If you put government, New York and guns all in a sentence, you can be sure nothing good will come from it, it will be costly and it will be to late.

Some are done with private funding and donations. Others are done using money seized from criminals and money made from the sale of property seized (cars, boats, planes). The stupid ones are done using tax money. It's not like it costs a whole lot. They don't give much money for the guns. Still stupid to give any money for a broken, unuseable gun.

Why are the guns not placed for sale to raise money and lower taxes, when cash is confiscated it certainly isn't burned, stolen cars, truck and boats are sold to raise cash yet guns are destroyed, it makes no sense.
Its a stupid idea that does nothing but promote the stealing of more guns from legitimate gun owners.Crack heads steal guns they don't go to stores and buy them.
And if a family has a gun they don't want, take it to a gun store and sell it, or simply take it apart and throw away a piece every week.

I'm in the market for a new gun perhaps I should lurk around the Buy back lines and offer fast cash.

I would guess you would be dealing with a less than honorable clientele.
